I saw new version of Simutrans was announced on German forum Trainsims community 81.07 or something like that. Did anybody tried that?

I think TG is a really weird game, couse it is very difficult to make money, even if you have a well made rout for some buses :(

well...had the game from the library, will play it again sometimes, maybe i will understand the game now...

I tried Industry Giant 2, and it really is a copy of RailRoad Tycoon 2. Trains overlap themselves  . Overall, it's bad.

If they add the tunels, bridges and signals as promised on their site, it "maybe" start to be interesting. In this stage is hard to recomend to anybody.

in dutch we have a saying: 'hoogmoed komt voor de val'
i dunno the correct english for this, but such claims are rubbish
it's like saying duke3d is better than doom or unreal is better than half-life
all games have their own good/bad things and for some reason people like one game better than another
(ps. Pch means patch i hope)
I said Simutrans is better in _some_ aspects. I never claimed that it is better than TTD in general. If you don't like Simutrans, that's ok, but please stay fair and don't tell lies.

Also Simutrans isn't finished yet, and it is a hobby project. Somehow I think it is very unfair to compare an unfinished hoppy project to one of the best commercial transport sims that ever have been made. Simutrans is free - what do you expect getting for free? If you have suggestions how to improve Simutrans, feel free to tell me, but telling bad stories about me behind my back isn't nice :(

PS: Improvemts:

Simutrans passengers have destinations. They change transport modes up to 30 times to reach their destination. Overall this leads to a very nice and realistic behaviour of passenger service.

Simutrans offers full screen modes up to 1280x1024 and windowed modes of any size, starting at 656x400.

Simutrans offers maps from 128x128 up to 576x576 sqaures.

Simutrans allows an unlimited number of vehicles (unpatched TTD is very limited here).

Simutrans allows to have stations of any size and shape.

Simutrans has categorized goods, so that waggons (vehicles) for bulk and piece good transfer are rather multi-purpose transport vehicles. This allows some nice flexibility in their usage.

Most of the time Simutrans was user-expandable, even in regards of new goods and industries. The current series of experimental versions is a bit limited in this, but we try to get a full user-configuration interface soon.

In comparison to unpatched TTD having multiheaded trains of up to 16 waggons is an improvement. Also having electrified track is an improvement.

Simutrans AI IMO builds better routes but YMMV of course. Anyways in Simutrans you can turn the AI off completely if you don't like it.

Simutrans has private cars (traffic) and pedestrians (can also be turned off if you don't like them).

Simutrans has platform precise schedules.

Simutrans has bus stations on raodside, no need to bulldoze houeses in tight city areas to build bus stations.

In Simutrans bridges might cross nearly anything including other bridges - it's handy to build bridges over factories and city areas IMO.

I think I might well say that Simutrans is better than TTD in _some_ aspects. Of course YMMV and I know there are enough things that do not work well yet, but we're still working to improve Simutrans. If oyu have complaintrs, just tell me. If you have suggestions you're always welcome.

PPS: I'll not be online over the weekend so I'll most likely not be able to continue discussion here until next week :(

1000 units is the limit. Once your competitors station is beyond 1000 units you get all that is produced.

Below 1000 it's fair distribution (equal share for all stations).

If you got noting, maybe you didn't service a consumer that had a contract with the producer?

If they had a contract and you got nothing you discovered a bug. In such cases the most successful method to get the problem fixed is teling me or one of the other development team members :)

I lied :?
Just said each game has its good and bad things
Jan said the author was saying that his game was better on his site, i didn't read it personaly
So i'm sorry if you didn't say that
But I didn't lie
Hajo wrote:Also Simutrans isn't finished yet, and it is a hobby project.
Great work then if it's just a hobby :D
Hajo wrote:Somehow I think it is very unfair to compare an unfinished hoppy project to one of the best commercial transport sims that ever have been made.
Indeed and i didn't compare them

I have no suggestions and i don't even know your game, sorry for that
If you think i was telling bad stories behind your back then you are wrong
I just said each game has good and bad things, so in a way i said your game must have better things too
I think you misunderstood what i was trying to say
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future

I meant Jan, who posted the original message. He accused me of claims that I didn't mke. And you answered with 'hoogmoed komt voor de val' without knowing my original message nor my project. That just made me angry.

Please if someone accuses a person that you don't know of something you didn't check, don't just join whacking that person. IMO that's no good style.

I know that you're a member of the mailing list (at least you had been a member of the mailing list) and there is a poll that you created but never closed. But there are so many people on the mailing list, I don't remember any details.

Hajo, I have tried your game and I too think that Simutrans is better than TTD in some aspects. The AI, for example.

I have also tried to translate it to Swedish. But, to get my translation to work, I have to replace it with for example the Spanish one. (Rename it to es.tab).
Do you know any way to get around this?

I can understand that that makes you angry, i just believed Jan because he comes here often and i figured he was telling the truth
You can't expect me to go around and checking everybody's claims
It would take me hours

But i think you're exagerating a bit, "whacking that person"
Anyway, sorry if you mis-understood my intention
Perhaps a talk eye to eye could clear this up
I never have the intention of whacking somebody, that's not my style and i would hate our relation to start on the wrong foot
Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future
