I was thinking about it yesterday, but i figured that it won't be possible whitout a full graphic redo, as there would fit max 3 tiles in a screen as it is now. Also, amps would have to be smal, and it couldn't be extensivem, as phones don't have any good specs, and few have more then 3mb discspace.

some latest moblie phones use flash cards, some have even hdd so space is not a problem, I think memory would be a problem or color range

As far as I know it's not so much about making it but more the idea of being able to play it on a phone.

Whictch you can't unless it's remade in a phone accepted format. Also, it would have to be redone for each brand. Nokia use java.

Well, with some phones that run Symbian and so on, in theory it might not be too difficult. After all, OpenTTD has been ported to Pocket PC, which some smartphones run. (Although the Pocket PC API is quite similar to the Win32 API, of course). The main issue would really be size of stuff, both in filesize terms and screen resolution.

PSP, Playstation Pocket is coming out in Japan on 12th December this year ... I would prefer play (O)TTD on PSP (but when it comes out in Europe ... dunno)

I've been playing too long, I think I recognize the scenario on those two phones on the left.

Screen size would be the biggest issue. I'm sure, <= 300 pixels would never be enough, where would the game menu go? Secondly the lack of a good input device would drive me nuts! As for file size, like SHADOW-XIII said most newer phones (where the screen size would be 'acceptable') come with 32mb Flash cards as standard. More than enough space.

It would be good but the annoyances would soon take their toll.

Well, and why not make a ttd like game for mobile phones? I don't think most of mobile staff nowadays is capable of running TTD with 256x256 map and hundreds of vehicles and so on. But may be it is possible to make at least any transportation activity game. I don't know why but even with the puny system resources my Siemens M55 (supporting J2ME) has it's quite possible to run a sim-city like game (Townsmen), an ANNO 1503 port, many-many-many arcades and so on, but nobody has ever released anything at least connected with transportation.
P.S. I would have tried myself :D but I know neither Java nor Mobile Basic.

i reckon this is the closest TT will get to a phone, i'd love to be able to play it on my phone, i've seen some pretty complex games eg. monopoly available for phones but it's not the same.. it'd be a totally different game, as Oleg said, by the time you condensed it enough to fit on a phone

I wonder if there is someone here who can program for mobile phones. I think it won't be difficult neither to draw the necessary graphics nor to design the essentials of the gameplay.

While some folks here are so profound as to completely rewrite TTD for 'big' computers, nobody even pays their attention to the sphere where some companies already make money. Here are some screenshots:

And here is just a tycooner's dream (not released yet, what a pity) - Trucks Tycoon:

My current design decision for WinRT2 is to seperate the graphic logic from the game logic, so in general a server could run the game and the handheld would only be the graphic terminal... (hence I don't know about the latency problems with such a design).

Maybe I should write down my thoughs and ideas and go public...
