SuSE not free?
Last time I checked it definately was. I used to have SuSE 9 installed

Ah, thats right, all Linux distros (except for Linspire/Lindows) comes with a free version. Just never found the personal SuSe.
As for BSD, yes, OS X is based on *NIX, mach, but uses BSD in some parts, and NeXtSteP other places. If you had to pick between Linux/FreeBSD to say which resembles OS X the most (or the other way around in fact) you would have to say BSD.
