Speed system
Sorry if this has been suggested before but its an Idea.
It has to be optional, because some people don't like micromanagment.
I suggest buildable signs that define speed after it, eg, build the sign, use the info tool on it and set it to twenty. Trains won't slow down over bridges, but if they don't slow because of these signs, the bridge disappears and then train crashes. Also tunnels (because of air pressure in the tunnels) To speed up again another sign is needed saying the desired speed. Alos going through stations should be slow, or the air suction can pull people agaisnt a speeding train, which could trigger a min-disaster, and lower ratings.
I hope you like my idea.

Re: Speed system
Well that is not very realistic. I see a ton of trains racing through stations, and nobody ever gets hurtBorn Acorn wrote:Sorry if this has been suggested before but its an Idea.

I'm firmly in the "this has to be configurable" crowd, I don't like this suggestion one bit.
If the bridge can't handle top speed, you slow down.
If the tunnel can't handle top speed, you slow down.
Through stations, you use an appropriate speed.
These are all given IMHO. I honestly don't see why this should not remain automated the way it is, why I should waste my time stating the obvious, so to say.
If you want the game to be more realistic, just imagine the natural intelligence and common sense of your personnel is being applied
.
I love (micro)management in the way of fine-tuning my rail network for maximum throughput, but if trains start dying cause I forgot to set some speed limit that is of no meaning to me -- that would kill the gameplay for me.

Re: Speed system
Well, that's not entirely true. Here in Bonn two young women died at the train station a few months ago. They were hit by a cargo train going through the station. They were drunk though, I think.Darkvater wrote:Well that is not very realistic. I see a ton of trains racing through stations, and nobody ever gets hurt
Back to the topic: I don't like the idea either.

Re: Speed system
Oh, that's quite realistic. In Austria there's usually a speed limit of 80km/h in stations, on some routes the limit is 120 km/h (but the yellow lines are quite far away of the platform edge).Darkvater wrote: Well that is not very realistic. Some time ago speed test drives with the new 'taurus' were made, they installed hoardings in the stations, so nobody will be hurt.
Found on elektrolok.de:
We could introduce new stations, with different speed limit (like the bridges).
Skunk.
