Weird graphics alignment problem

Post by krtaylor »

I tried to start a new game using Jim Powers' Northeast Rails scenario, using the US set of course. The following picture is what resulted.

Notice that the train actually works just fine, and looks right on the tracks. It's just in the depot and the build window that it is messed up. This makes playing the game somewhat inconvenient, as you might imagine.

My existing US-set savegames do NOT have this problem, even though all are using the most recent version of Patch and US set.

I started a new randomly-generated game and it had the same problem. So it seems to be something caused by a freshly started game.

Any ideas? I've got all the usual graphics files, plus stations (NOT the silverline one), the most recent Planeset beta, and all George's long vehicles version 3.

This has definitely been reported before, namely here and here.

Oh, and it's spelt "weird" ;)

No, NOT the same error. Your first link was totally irrelevant, it dealt with crude TTD town names. Your second link was closer, it was a very similar phenomenon. However, in that case the solution was to remove stacjaw.grf. But I don't have that file, and never did. (I don't even know what it is, actually...)

So, it's caused by something else. Maybe something similar, but something else.

Well, the second one looks like exactly the same problem to me. Excuse the dumb typo (9517 vs. 9157) on the first one.

The SYMPTOM is identical. The CAUSE cannot be the same, at least not as the second one, because the person reporting the bug also reported the solution, namely, to remove a particular GRF file. But I don't have that GRF file at all. It's quite possible the trouble is found in some other GRF file. I thought it might be the Planeset, since that's a beta not in common use, but disabling it didn't do any good either. I'll have to keep fiddling. Oddly, I didn't get any sprite errors.

Turned out that the problem was a bad interaction between the new Industrial Stations and the US set. I had the stations GRF file listed AFTER the US set, which caused the trouble. When I moved it BEFORE, I was fine. I've reported this in the Industrial Stations thread.

So then it WAS the same problem. :P
We should all know by now that it many things are not usually the fault of one rogue .grf file.

No, we do not know if it was the same problem. For one thing, I don't know what the actual problem in the stacjaw.grf file was (I still don't even know what that is). And certainly we don't know what the trouble in the industrial-stations file is, because nobody's looked. It is possible that the root cause is the same; it's also possible that we have found two different ways of botching GRF-encoding. For sure, the problems are similar, and certainly pointing out those other problems was useful.
