its not the svline.grf but the canals.grf i believe. i simply deactivated all grf via GUI (except that one which are not switchable). then i switched on every grf one after another. after switching on canals the game crashed.

That's not neccessarily true.
It's more probable a combination of grf's.
Just use the canals grf without svline and you'll notice it doesn't crash.

btw in my setup there is no crash, and I have them activated both. :P

I'm positive, it's not svline, because I don't use it, and the crash occurs too.
It's somehow related to the "articulated engines" feature, as discussed on the maillist.

That could well be, since I don't play with the US-set atm, but with the good old DBxl-set.

I've had the same problem: sub-arctic climate, US Set, Michael Blunck's new stations, new ships, canals - when I go to the very top of the map, the game crashes. If I avoid that area though, I can play the game perfectly normally.

OK I think I tracked the problem, but I need your confirmation.
The crash is caused by the "canals[w].grf".

Do the following:
-turn off canals[w].grf
-go to the topmost corner (should not crash)
-turn on canals[w].grf (should crash now)

patchman: I'd like to apologize for the tons of bug reports, and noone really looking into this problem... :?

That does stop the crashes, yes.

I deleted Canalsw from my newgrf list, but the game still crashes at the top right corner

I'm using Alpha 33

[edit]
