Do passengers have destinations? Or be intelligent and choose the fastest or cheapest transport mode for them?

I played RRT3, Schiene und Strasse, Transport Giant and Simutrans. In all the games the passengers had an destination, but it wasn't perfect. In my oppinion, an advanced passenger system makes the game much cooler.

Does OpenTTD support this? Example: People board a train and they won't all leave this train in the next station, but an station further, if that is their final destination... And so on. So you could make a local train and an inter-city express train. (In Holland trains are called this way.) It would be really, really cool. Or if people leave a train and board another train in the same station.

In the beginning of the game this would make harder to make money, but it would be easy when connecting two big cities and then extending the network to smaller towns. I understand if this isn't very high priority now, but it makes more realism and then the game would be more fun.

do a search before you post something like this, there've been lots of topics on this before...

You can extrapolate from that that it's most probably not going to happen.

It won't happen unless someone who's not currently a developer codes it, as the current developers all agree its pointless.

Well I don't :). Bjarni has played SimuTrans and he was very positive about the passanger destination feature. How I see it is that there are more pressing issues to be solved, eg. external plugin system for graphics, vehicles, improvement of AI, etc. then this one.

If someone has the time and the skill we'll gladly accept it, if it is DISABLEABLE. My fear is that this feature will need a complete rewrite of all relevant functions, and thus will be hard to turn on/off. Or maybe not. We'll see :)

I played SimuTrans when OTTD didn't exist, and used to bug Hajo for new BeOS builds of it (which he usually obliged). However, I hate, *HATE* destinations.

As we've seen it's not all the devs. No offence here, but personally I'd think you'd have to be complete idiots to not see a point to it.
