Go-to-depot doesn't go to the RIGHT depot
I'm having bad problems with the go-to-depot order. I have a dense network with few cities, and thus, the area of each city is large. Since all depots are automatically named after the city they're in, I frequently have many depots with the same name.
Occasionally I have to use a go-to-depot command to try to get the trains to route properly. But it doesn't work. The only thing I can think of is that the trains don't realize WHICH of the depots of the same name, is the one they're supposed to go to.
Any good ideas?

Yes, this still happens. I've been watching for it and it's rather annoying. If anything it's worse, trains seem to PREFER to go to the wrong depot if at all possible. Aggravating.

Well, the only games I've played in a long time involve testing the US set betas. If it's OK with you I'll either try to make a special test set, or wait until the first public release (very soon now!) so you can actually play the savegame.

I think Josef knows where the US Set test versions are (if he keeps his emails ...)

US Train Set v0.87.1 now released: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=8754

Oh. OK then, here's my file.
Observe the train that's a Budd RDC (there's only one.) It's supposed to shuttle between two stations, and occasionally visit the depot at the northerly station, but instead it often goes into the depot attached to the iron ore mine and gets stuck in there, because both depots bear the same name. This game has other examples of the problem revolving around that particular station and set of depots, such as the goods trains that service that station doing the same thing as the RDC, but they're not as obvious.

I just looked at the savegame more closely. I guess I do not have a savegame that shows exactly the problem, I made some changes afterwards to try and fix it. However, I know how to cause it using the savegame you've got.
1. Take the RDC train, and tell it to go to the Dronston Train Depot after every visit to Dronston. There's a train depot in the interchange right above the station. You'll find (at least I did) that some of the time, such as when there was another train entering Dronston from the north, the RDC decided to go to the OTHER Dronston Train Depot, which is at the iron ore mine to the south, and so it got stuck in there.
2. The goods trains that service Dronston also have the same problem. To avoid it, I told them to go to the Dronston Train Depot after visiting Dronston (after the spot of that savegame), but that made the problem if anything worse, again much of the time they went to the iron ore one.
I was wondering if possibly, the problem was compounded by the routing-through-depots issue. Is it possible to fix that? I mean, make it so that the routing scheme can look through a forced-entry depot and see where the track goes on the other side, so as not to cause the trains to get confused in the routing?
But here's my CFG file anyway.

Yes. The stupid thing was doing it to me constantly. You did put the depot in its command list, right?
Well, I guess I will have to sit on it for a while until I find another example, then I'll do a better job of trapping it for you to dissect.
Did you have any comment on the possibility of fixing the routing to be able to see through depots? That would make life lots easier, and might even fix this problem. Or, looked at the other way, the depot-routing problem makes this one worse, since you're more likely to use a depot in the orders if you have to do it to get the train to route properly.

I don't know what you mean by that, actually. "See through depots" how?krtaylor wrote:Did you have any comment on the possibility of fixing the routing to be able to see through depots? You know how if you fix the track going into a depot so the train can't go around, but MUST go through the depot (forced servicing), the routing algorithm cannot see whatever's on the far side of the depot? So if you do a forced-servicing on the mainline, whch is the logical place to put it so it'll get used, it screws up the pathfinding.

Oh well. Never hurts to ask.
I'll try and trap another depot-confusion example for you, and resurrect this post when I do.
