multilevel train stations (on hills)

Post by Alltaken »

just wondering if anyone else has done this before.

the train tracks need to go up the hill before going down the hill because othewise you are stuck on the banks of the hill for ever LOL. (can't go down)

so yeah just wondering if it had been dn before. it made that city a bit more useable as i gained a bit of realestate for city buildings.

Heh, I was bothering them about it the other day. We need permission from whoever made the graphics for TTDPatch to use theirs, or do it ourself :p

ok,ok so i am obviously not a smarty pants (but these things are things i just figure out LOL, i have been away for a long time)

ok so i am also assuming that people regularly do my next plan?

HEAPS (and i mean about 1/4) of the towns on the map do not have an industry at all associated with them, so they suck really really badly, and the towns never grow.

busses p*** me off Sooooo much, they get jammed, they are slow, they earn no money.... trains are however to big and take up so much space.....

so i have used an old old tactic that i saw for some guy that made a 1 million somthing person cit. SUBWAYS ;)

i build one on every town that is tiny (i mean starting when they have no city buildings and half or more of the stations i build will not even accept passengers), at least two of the stations do need to though.

anyway here is a newish one (by new i mean in its first year of profitability, before i did it, it was 3 houses and a church), on a town that used to hate me, and under that is one i prepared earlier (and the town is currently one of the medium sized-bigger towns on the map) also on a town that used to hate me. the first three year and the trains lose big money, but after that the town becomes huge and the trains (although only 3 carridges long) can earn hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

can turn a useless town into the biggest money earner, and can also be done from early in the game. (using signals on every corner the direction can be forced (so no orders required), and multiple trains can be used when the city gets huge)

but i guess its something that everyone does already, and me feeling proud of it, is like someone feeling proud of building a railway track LOL???

You see those lines inbetween each square of track or platform, their because the proper graphics for slopes haven't been implemented, like TTDPatch has.

Go here:
http://www.divxland.org/ttd/ttdur.htm
And download traffic set v2 for windows and install it in your ottd
the higher bridges may be ugly but look at the bright side you will have better graphics for slopes

I like that because then you can see better if it are slopes and not normal tracks

No, he will not. It has to be programmed to get better slope-graphics, nothing else will solve that!

You're still screwed in arctic/desert where roadset is not active :)

Maybe. Do you have an ETA on the blowing-up-sun-event?

I dunno.. I got tired of that glitch and seeing as people were talking about recoding a graphics standard or whatnot, I decided to just fix it temporarily for myself anyway.

Works on all climates too.

I've been told I can't release it thought due to copyright issues and whatnot. Ah well. ;)

Point being?
Like I said, the only reason I made them was because I was getting tired of the "glitches" and wanted to see them removed.

I tried editing them to be just like yours rexxie when I was bored a while back.. no more clitches on the things built on slopes..

..well of course if you look closely they won't look the way they do in ttd anymore since some of the supports should be visible when it's the last piece of the road/rail/station. Came to the conclusion that fixing it by editing the sprites is not the right way, instead they should be drawn or priorized to be drawn before the landscape or the parts that should be blocked wouldn't be drawn at all.

Also I don't know if you noticed but one of the rail fences is one pixel offset to the left in openttd.. somebody ought to fix it. :)
