Dining Cars and 1st Class Cars into TTD
Railroad Tycoon 2 contains Dining Cars which make passengers in the train where a Dining Car is attached to worth more. Maybe this is something for TTD too?
And I've thought about 1st and 2nd class cars. It would work as this way:
Passengers in 1st class cars pay more, but 1st class cars cost more and have less capacity.
Anyone likes these ideas?

IMO you will allways take the most profitable configuration.
When dining cars will result in more profit, I will use for all passengertrain the diningcarage.
I do the same with the DB XL set. It contains a local and a main line passengercarage. In which the mainline carage can hold more passengers.
The idea is good, but I think most people will eventually use the most profitable configuration.

Yes okay that's true. Maybe then there must be something which makes it that you must use both (1st class & 2nd class) and something that makes dining cars only profitable at lines with many passenger traffic.
I don't know exactly how to make this 'something' and what this 'something' is but maybe someone else has some idea what 'something' could be.

The US set will do this too.Patchman wrote: Anyway, you could do it like the DB set does and automatically add the dining car once the train has a certain length.

It doesn't affect the train at all, it's just eye-candy. Like, in the US set certainly long-enough passenger trains will sprout observation dome cars. They aren't any different than a normal passenger car, they just look different.

Funny you should say that, actually ...krtaylor wrote:Do you work for the government?

Apologies for thinking out loud in that. IIRC (i.e. they could be hopelessly wrong) TSO = "Trailing Standard Open", FO = "First Open" and TRBF = "Trailing Restaurant Brake First", though it's either not a real restaurant, or I've got the wrong bit of stock in the middle of my trains

What if you replace 1 type of cargo by another type of passengers so you have 1st class passengers and 2nd class passengers each with their own 'cargo payment rate'?Patchman wrote:Making people pay differently depending on the transportation is probably not going to work very well... it'll also be too much effort so I don't think it'll be worth working on.
It's impossible to add a new cargo type anyway.

But can't this be done with the callback thingy (don't really know what it does, but i figured it changed the sprites depending on some properties, like train length). I mean, as far as i'm concerned it's just eye candy and doesn't need to be more than that.

The callback thingy does indeed change SOME parameters of traincars.
It can change the appearance of the traincars. That's how the DBset makes a dining car appear in the middle of a long train. But there isn't anything special about that car other than its appearance. It's still an ordinary passenger car with the usual capacity.
There was some thought of making the callback function able to change the capacity and weight of traincars. I don't think it can actually do this yet but I might be wrong.
A related function allows traincars to provide motive power in the case of multiple-unit trains, where in real life all the cars have powered wheels.
What they're talking about here is having a new sort of passenger, a "first-class" passenger that wants to ride in a first-class carriage and pay more. It would be easy to make some of the cars in a train LOOK like first-class carriages. There isn't any way to get them to pay more though.
