i don't know the exact limits. but if you maxed out at 80 of each vehicle type, you could average a train length of 3 tiles (engine+5 wagons) and you couldn't buy any more wagons because of the vehicle limit.

Those were really modest limits, but it didn't feel like that to me at the time Maybe it's also because it was played in a completely different style, not like today where a player can do practically anything and have steam trains even in the twenty-first century

i should add that on my computer the game ran like a crawl at those limits, and i never even reachted 1950 before i switched to a newer computer.

What are we going to talk about, those limits corresponded to the possibilities of the computers of that time
I also had a bit of a problem with the large number of trains and cars. Although at the time I was either not very good with cars, or the buses from the original game were generally not very profitable, often unprofitable.
