Assuming this is about buying up AIs using shares, that's been replaced by a more straightforward way to buy an AI company: https://github.com/OpenTTD/OpenTTD/pull/10914

Have you seen these two recent threads?

They are features that have been, or are about to be removed, despite clear objections and pleas from players to leave them in.

I've said before, in a few posts, that one of OTTD's greatest strengths is the freedom to play in any style you choose. Sadly, this no longer seems to be the case.

Thanks for the info Pete, first I knew about it as been too busy drawing and codings.

I agree with you. Keep the old ways and add new ideas as well. I think cause of the variety of ways to play this game now has created a increase in followers and I know some kids and old f**ts like me enjoy the variety of ays to play it now.

In short: No. A bit longer: Yes, one can exploit the mechanism. But in general it is a simple possibility to add parts with gaps. And apart of that one can add parts with gaps even without the feature but with much more click effort. So this is simply a relief.

Especially the second example about large planes not crashing on small airports is not true no matter how many times you or LaChupacabra repeat it and I am absolutely sure you know that. One can still switch off this "feature". I can't and won't say anything about the shares thingy because I never used this feature and I don't know anything about how broken this feature is in its previous, now removed incarnation.

To a degree you can play in any style you choose. Those choices, though, are limited by what is programmed into the game.

The shares feature has been effectively not working as intended for a long time and TrueBrain has discussed how it is difficult for the developers to continue to maintain this broken system. The next release is removing the buying and selling of shares until a better solution can be implemented. In the meanwhile, another system - hostile takeover of AI - is being implemented to assist with the buyout of companies, and it is a feature that will be rolled into the future shares system.

You can still choose to use it or not use it.

And if you wonder about how many players are REALLY using it? Going forward OpenTTD now has anonymous usage reporting rolled in so that the devs can actually see what features are or are not being used. So instead of arguments based on what people THINK other people are doing, the devs will actually have hard data to know what's working.
