[OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
@ZxBiohazardZx & Gremnon: I think it's because mine's on a Mac and I've not changed anything since OTTD 0.6.3, didn't even upgrade to 0.7 so I guess that's the main source of problems. Which is why you can't play my game, and there's no specific patchpack, some kind soul compiled one workable version of all my favourite patch and I've been playing it since. The patches are at least a year old by now.
@Chrill: My man! You put my screenshots over my marriage? Haha! In order of importance? Guess I can't disappoint in my next game.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Oh my word, 11 years since I last visited this place. Anyone from the old gang still around? A thousand apologies for the lost decade, I couldn't remember clearly what happened, but during that time, I think my iMac died. When it was revived, I couldn't find the specific nightly build, then I had kids, settled on my career, blah blah blah. Now that the world is gripped by Covid, I manage to download one of the patched versions for MacOS. It still has a couple of the old patches that I needed, distant-stations, daylength factor and YAPP (or whatever it is called nowadays). At the same time, there were a ton of new stuff that I was not familiar with, newGRF is now a downloadable and selectable component from the game itself, AI comes with scripts, more newGRF than I had last time, etc.
Enough of the small talk. A shout out to @Ameecher, @Pingaware, @Raichase, @ZxBioHazardZx, @Niteowl, @Benny and I know I can't remember them all, so a big sorry to those I have left out. If you are still around let's catch up on the old days.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
I am quite new here, but I can tell you about some new stuff here:
- YAPF is now normal, since it is in game.
- You can have non-grid landscape with OGFX+ Landscape. It even allows variable snow line and temparate grass in subarctical climate.
- Using industry set is now normal, there are more types of them (FIRS 1-4 are several versions of what is standard of industry sets, 4 is newest; XIS (Extereme Industry set) is a fork of FIRS 3 which has a LARGE economy with many cargoes and industries (game can have up to 64 cargoes including passengers and mail and I think 128 industries); AuzInd is also a fork of FIRS, Australia themed; DPRK industries is North Korean themed fork of FIRS; ECS, it is old and non updated; OTIS, this is a set with few one tile industries which have more kinds using switches, each kind has different cargoes in and out, useful for hiding into eye candy industrial area
- There are many train sets out there, just grab something you like, I use 2CC trains, V4 trains and sometimes Timberwolf's trains.
- Player can now have up to 64 railtypes in his game, some train sets need one of the railtype sets.
- Similarly there has been NotRoadTypes implemented in 1.10, it features a road types, most of updated RV sets are compatible with them and there are a road (and tram also) sets with various kinds of roads.
- There are NewObjects, which are common in eye candy games, with them you can decorate your game.
- There is now one updated patch pack, JGRpp, which has a lot of new features, for example infrastructure sharing, signals on bridges, even more NewGRFs in one game, restrictions applicable to signals, and way more. One can even replace a block signal logic stuff with features in JGRpp, there is also a better braking model, which disables block signals at all, so it is pointless to use block signals.
- Most of the old AIs are incompatible with rail or road types...

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Wow, thanks for listing that all down. You have just summarized the last 10 years of OTTD Development. Right now, I'm still using Pikka's Industries (which was the 'king' back then), FIRS, and ECS started during my time too. I forgot which one gave the Lumber to the Sawmill, and also Paper. There were Plastics and Fuel Oil too. But since most train sets didn't have all these new industries built-in, some couldn't be used, since they didn't have the right wagons to carry the new industries. One of these days, I need to play with 128 industries!
Back then macOS support wasn't that comprehensive, so I had to play with some nightly builds, and usually, these would be a few versions older than the Windows version. Established trainsets during my time were UKRS and CANSet. I tried Timberwolf's, which gave me too many choices (which could be a good thing, once I get a hang of it), that for a time I was deciding which train type was more profitable.
As for AIs, I seldom played with those, rather preferring a sandbox, narrative type of game for my screenshots. Oh, and narrative screenshots were the thing, back then.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
I think, XIS, which is largest one out here now, has cca 80 industries, however that is quite a lot for smaller maps. I would say, try out various NewGRFs and see what is fun for you to play with. There is also a lot of NewGRF stuff I did not mention, take a look at BaNaNaS in-game or at website. At website is stuff sorted by update/upload time.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Mostly not a problem anymore. There's a fairly standardized set of labels for cargoes which just about every NewGRF vehicle set supports if they transport cargoes.
Also not a problem anymore. MacOS version is compiled and released at the same time as the Windows and Linux versions.Back then macOS support wasn't that comprehensive, so I had to play with some nightly builds, and usually, these would be a few versions older than the Windows version.
2CC Trains in NML is a pretty good choice these days. Canset is no longer publicly available (for now), as OzTrans pulled it. You can PM him and see if he'll provide you a copy if you don't have it archived somewhere. Also a new feature, if you have too many vehicles to deal with, open the buy menu and ctrl-click on the ones that don't interest you and they'll be hidden from view.Established trainsets during my time were UKRS and CANSet. I tried Timberwolf's, which gave me too many choices (which could be a good thing, once I get a hang of it), that for a time I was deciding which train type was more profitable.

Good to know that OpenTTD is finally (maybe has been for the last few years) a pretty stable release on all platforms. Including constant and improved newGRF. All these things were unheard of back then. Thanks for all the help!

Following the connection of the coal seams at Frain Coal Mine, the company finally managed to balance the accounts. For this game, I put the infrastructure costs at medium, maybe I should have played with it on hard settings. Within 3 years, I was already in the black.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
My curiosity got the better of me and I fell into the deep hole that was FIRS. Although it's still not the 128 industries GRF set, most online forums suggested starting with FIRS. Even so, I found myself overwhelmed with the choices. Gone were the Grain and Power Station, the two industries that I usually start off with.
The year was 1940, a small (512x512) island was in need of transporting stuff around, thus ConneXion Ltd came to life in the town of Low. A pair of C35 4-6-0s were put to service, running the Passenger/Mail in between Low and Boddington. Trains in the AusSet are expensive, but I didn't realize that the income generated was high too. A single trip could generate as high as $10,000. Looks like running passenger services could be quite profitable.
A really nice shot of the station at Low, which would be a future hub for the company.
Boddington where a C35 is waiting for passengers. I tend to go for shorter trains rather than having long ones waiting at stations for their load. Let us see does this still applies 10 years away from the game.
Still weird that I don't have grain. But luckily, livestock appears to step up in their production as compared to Pikka's Basic Industries which was what I used to play with. Then, to get a full load of livestock would take some time. And in the game, we can transport Milk!

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Milk trains doing their runs, surprisingly the refitted wagons could only carry a maximum of 6,000 litres although there is one specific milk wagon with a capacity of 100,000 litres that would make a very unrealistic looking train, since production at the farms is just a little over 120,000 litres. Moo moo!
Branch lines and main lines converge just outside the town of Crownthorpe. This is also a new feature to me, having a few choices of rail speed in construction, the slightly worn look of the branch lines is in contrast with the more polished main lines.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
The increased passengers and mail at Low dictated a new connection to Attercliffe. This made all passenger services so far only connecting cities. We have yet to build a branch line for the smaller villages. Although this might change in the future, but the lack of goods and food will affect the village growth and hamper income.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Look at this hotel next to the farm. I have no idea why anyone would decide to place a hotel here, but anyhow, the company was going after the milk and livestock business, so the hotel would have to be left on its own for some time.
The junction madness has begun at the Perry Barr junction, this spaghetti will be diverting traffic from the steel mill, which will receive supplies from the iron ore mines and the scrapyard, whilst providing steel. On top of that, livestock and food will pass by en route to the market. On top of that, we have passenger services using this too.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
I just realized in my previous game that I only had the base game road vehicles, so a lot of my FIRS stuff could not be transported. Loading a newGRF crashed the game.
Anyhow, I'm back with a new game. This time loading all of Timberwolf's trains and road vehicles. Hopefully this time it sticks. The year is 1950 and we have a narrow strip of land in between two landmasses in need of a transportation company. Narrows Ltd was started on the basis of just transporting freight in the early years, before branching out into passenger services.
LNWR G2 class was the go-to freight train during the early years of the company. Combining speed with low maintenance. Luckily this small spit of land is somewhat flat, which lessen the need for gradient climbing.
Within a year and some sort of spaghetti tracks were needed to make sure the import and export of goods from Belval Port are being streamlined.
I really like the train sprites when zoomed in close.

Re: [OTTD] Two5Kid's Screenshots
Now that we have food settled, the company turned their focus onto one of (if not, the most) the grandest projects ever attempted in the course of the game. I will provide some clues but I think most of you would have guessed what it is.
First of all, the identification of a major supply of coal, since this is one of the primary industries that does not require anything except Engineering Supplies, even if without it, the coal mine would still function albeit at a lower level. Luckily, we were in a close location with not one, but actually two coal mines, unfortunately, the high costs of the train engines meant that we would only be focusing on one of the coal mines first.
I tend to build stations as big as I think they would need. 3 platforms, two for coal transport and one for supplies. Usually, two platforms would suffice but since coal is being transported a fair distance, in order to keep ratings high, two loading platforms are needed.
After exactly a year of supplying coal, the company was able to extend the mainline all the way to the port for importing zinc. Unfortunately, what we failed to realize was that 140 tonnes of zinc only equates to 2 crates of engineering supplies. We had to go back to the drawing board and fitted all zinc trains with boxcars capable of ferrying supplies from the port. In the future, we intend to produce our own supplies. But for now, we will have to import.
The only coke oven factory that was available on the map. Another miscalculation on our part (again!). A full load of 250 tonnes of coal only provide 36000 litres of coal tar and 200 tonnes of coke. My coal tar train has been running at a lost since its inception but luckily it is covered by the rest of the industries.
