My dedicated server doesn't work please help
Hey everyone, I tried to make a dedicated server so I can play with my dad who lives a town over and it keeps saying that I need to forward the ports. The problem is that I tried to do that but it didn't work. Maybe because the openttd dedicated server says that my address is 192.168.0.255 but when I try to port forward, my wifi says it's 192.168.0.1 Somebody please help I don't know what to do.
Re: My dedicated server doesn't work please help
You almost certainly do not have a server at 192.168.0.255, because that address is the broadcast address in most common network setups. It's also an internal network address, not an Internet-routable address, only computers directly connected to your own home network can reach 192.168.x.y addresses.
I'll assume you're on Windows 10: Open the Settings app, go to "Network & Internet", then find the "View your network properties" link. You should see your Ethernet of Wi-Fi connection there, showing as connected, and listing an IPv4 address. That address is your computer's internal address, and the one you should set the port-forwarding rules to point to.
Then you need to find your public IPv4 address, that's the address your router has towards the rest of the internet. https://www.whatismyip.com/ is a fine service for finding that. Your public IPv4 address is what your father then needs to connect to.

Re: My dedicated server doesn't work please help
Hey I'm sorry if I didn't get what you were saying I'm not good at English.
I used the page as you said and It says My Public IPv4 is: 213.192.24.140 and I don't know if that is what the dedicated server should say is the ip address...
Oh and I already forwarded the ports on the private IPv4 and it doesn't work.
If this helps this is what the dedicated server says:

Re: My dedicated server doesn't work please help
In your router, you need to also enable port forwarding of ports 3978 and 3979 to the internal IP address that your computer is connecting to.

Re: My dedicated server doesn't work please help
Hey Kamnet, I did everything and it still doesn't work I really don't know why I did all the port forwarding and it keeps saying the same thing. I looked up if I did something wrong on google and youtube and I found that I need to do something in my laptop so I did that and nothing happend, I heard that turning off firewall will help but still nothing
