train station platform number
Would it be hard to add train station platform number?
I like to send a train to a platform eg..
train 1 to go platform 3 at a station. ( this been said the station would have to have 3 or more platform at it.)
while I want the next train, train 2 to go to platform 1 and so on.
I think this would add a bit of more fun and more a a real time realistic running of the trains in the game.
I know for the most part I play it for the trains and try to run it as best as I can.

Re: train station platform number
Stations do not have individual platforms. There are two ways to simulate what you would like to do, however.
1) Built all your platforms as one station, and then place a waypoint before them. Have the trains go non-stop via the waypoint to reach the platform after it.
2) Build each individual platform using ctrl-click, which will create a new station. Each train essentially gets assigned to its own individual station, but they are placed together as a unified graphic.

Re: train station platform number
While it would be a nice feature and i thought about it as well, you can currently build something like that with waypoints.

Only a fast build up of a station layout
To be honest i wouldn't use it, because in larger networks its a nice feature that
trains are using the next free platform. You would need some conditional orders for
station platforms as well. If a platform is occupied, look if there is some other free platform.
Else all trains with the same order would wait behind the train at the specific platform.
If you have more then one train serving the line it could be a loooong line of trains waiting
Happy dispatching

hehe we had the same idea kamnetkamnet wrote:Stations do not have individual platforms. There are two ways to simulate what you would like to do, however.

But solution 2 is not the best one, because you have individual passenger/goods distribution as well. Dunno if you really want it

Re: train station platform number
On second through, you might be right. With CargoDist now a part of the stable 1.4.0 branch, that could make for a sticky wicket.TrueSatan wrote:But solution 2 is not the best one, because you have individual passenger/goods distribution as well. Dunno if you really want it

Re: train station platform number
You would already have problems with the different acceptance areas without CargoDist. They will overlap, on bigger stations you need additional bus stops to extend the acceptance area far enough.kamnet wrote:On second through, you might be right. @TrueSatan: It could work with waypoints if you are not that picky about which train goes to which platform, but accept that it can go to multiple, but not all, platforms by placing the same waypoint over multiple tracks and share some tracks with multiple waypoints (if that makes any sense as I say it now).

Re: train station platform number
I've never gone as far as making waypoints for each platform, but I have at large stations made waypoints specifically to cater for slow trains or goods/mail services so that they don't interfere so much with my fast trains.

Re: train station platform number
I never have such kind of special plaform stations. Probably only once due to graphics.
But any other time, never a single platform; most of the time several for a group.

Re: train station platform number
In any case it should be an optional feature and not enabled as standard.
Every more complex feature scares "normal" players away.
As much as I would like something like platforms from time to time
I wouldn't want them on every station.
In real life trains switching platforms very often, even the regular schedule
says platform 2 chances are high it will arrive on platform 1 because another
train was to late and waits on platform 2.
So currently it would be enough to use waypoints... imho.
And oops it would be easier if I had used the ctrl key for building those waypoints.
On the other hand its easier now to read lol
Seeing now the waypoints in front of the station gives me another idea for Cirdans new map features
Regards

On Your picture I must point out if You Ctrl+left mouse click while building way point You can build different way points next to each otherTrueSatan wrote:you can currently build something like that with waypoints.

Re: train station platform number
Last time i tried waypoints over multiple platforms, the pathfinder didn't consider the path reservation beyond the waypoint for penalties, so a train always wanted to go to the same platform regardless of it being occupied. a workaround could be using the waypoint behind the platform, and not using "non-stop" on the order.
Re: train station platform number
Eddi, I imagine your description like this:
Why not put that waypoint before the split/crossover or use only PBS'es and only before waypoints?

Re: train station platform number
Indeed. Since he´s working on a fork, he should really introduce "restricted" and "programmable signals". Using "waypoints" for distributing trains looks childish.TrueSatan wrote: Seeing now the waypoints in front of the station gives me another idea for Cirdans new map features![]()

Restricted signaling is a feature what I miss from old good Patch times!

Dunno if he really wants to do programmable signals. But that would be the last feature I am missing as well.michael blunck wrote:Indeed. And I am not sure if it wouldn't be better a separate patch for now. Maybe it would be easier to spot
bugs then. Like I found two yapf bugs by accident in the nmf patch

I have the feeling programmable signals and yapf could be a problem.
And since signals exists is it really a new map feature???
Nevertheless I agree with you we need something to route the trains a bit more specific then we can do now.
+1 one as well.
And yes ISA I am aware that I can use ctrl + click to place new waypoints side by side. But it was only a fast solution to show
you can do it.
Not that I ever use something like that

And now i remember that I used the programmable signals on ttd-patch to do so.
Damn long time not played ttd-patch.
Thanks to ra_27 who started the thread we are on a good way now I think

Re: train station platform number
I give the waypoint point a go for it I did think of that
and thanks for tell me about,
" 2) Build each individual platform using ctrl-click, which will create a new station. Each train essentially gets assigned to its own individual station, but they are placed together as a unified graphic."
I didn't know you can do that.

Re: train station platform number
If this gets added it'd check one thing off this viewtopic.php?f=32&t=43972
and this needs to be added as it'd make things like DWE stations and ISR seem better, and you can reserve platforms for mail or other things

I would say that the main reason would be the 'gameplay' then there comes newgrf's what makes game nice and so on.

Re: train station platform number
platform selection should probably be a vehicle orders thing, not something you build, because signals have very limited ways of detecting which train is approaching.michael blunck wrote:Indeed. Re: train station platform number
Personally I like both. If I just want to separate grain and animal train at a farm station it's simpler (€: or could be simpler) using a signal "grain trains here only", but if I want a realistic passenger station where train lines always arrive at the same platform, then, true, a platform number would be better.
