LOROL granted 2 year extention

Post by JamieLei »

For being bloody brilliant. And they are. Just shows what a bit lot of investment will do :)

Has very quickly slotted in to the London rail structure. Feels like a tube line, runs like a tube line. Great effort.

I remember when it first opened and I tried to write a sarcastic thread here about how this "brand new Overground" was s*** (took a journey from Clapham Junction to Willsden at rush hour), which got taken a little too literally by some members here.

But since then, the difference is absolutely enormous.

Haha - I know I was the annoying brat back then, but I still don't know whether the sarcasm I intended came through clearly enough in that thread. To be fair, I could have written it a bit better to avoid the subsequent drama.

Also - had a quiet chuckle at Kev's prediction that there wouldn't be enough demand to sustain more than a 30 min frequency on some of the lines! Even the GOBLIN has a (untimetabled) 5tph in the peaks now. I don't think any of us, even the transport planners with TfL in the age, thought it would be the success it is today.

Edit: Since then the District Line seems to have increased from 10tph to 12tph to Upminster. Nice to see the tube upgrade improvements in effect

Quite happy, and indeed pleased, to admit I was totally wrong about that.

But then, I was there on the first day... http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... d&start=20 (about half way down).

And it was a very, very slow start then. The opening of the new East London Line really was the breakthrough moment for the Overground though, I think.

Nice to read that again!

I still haven't been on the Gospel Oak - Barking (I don't make detours to visit places I don't need to go, hence I still haven't been on a 153 yet). But I've heard it's now very nice. Plenty of experience with LM's 172s!
