Photo Of The Month - January/February 2013 Entries +Question

Post by Geo Ghost »

Sorry for the wait. Here's the January competition.

Quick question before anything else though, I have been thinking about extending this months competition till February the 21st, then running voting from then till the 28th.
Reason being is that there's only 2 and a half weeks left of January, which isn't a lot of time to get entries in really. Especially if people are busy.
Plus February is shorter as we all know so I can't really extend the entries a week extra into then.

This is partly my fault as I've been very busy and haven't been able to really get to grips with this and sort it out. However, I think it's only fair to allow a bit extra time for people to get any photos taken and enter, rather than only have a couple of weeks and risk having very few entries - not good when there's a very interesting theme.

So what I'll do for the moment, is suggest it runs till the 21st of February, unless anyone really disagrees with that idea. How does that sound? :)
Silence will be taken as a "yes that's fine" in this case ;)

The theme for this month is Dusk and Nighttime.
So we're pretty much thinking night and low-light here it seems. Set by last months winner, Ameecher.

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0113POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0113POTM_orudge.jpg / 0113POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0113POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.

Best of luck to you all, and have fun!
-Richard

Taken while waiting for the train on a rainy day (no bonus points for people who guess which station it is).

Not sure if this exactly fits the theme. If not, I'll find something else, the best thing about winter is that it becomes dark early, so lots of opportunities for pictures.

On the extension of this months competition to February, I agree.

I have this which is open to all critiscisms.

Although no real transport can be seen, the photo was taken on top of Euston bus station and there is a white plane trail......

If this doesn't fit intio the rules, let me know.

Also, apologies for the excessive watermarking... it was taken through a window.

Edit: Shouldn't the subject be Dawn and Dusk?? My opinion only.

Waited an hour today on a dune and the beach during a beautiful sunset. Almost became a glacier mummy in the freezing wind. To discover the 6 ships off the coast were hidden under snowclouds making them gray shadows on the pictures :(

Made many nice pictures, but all have no transportation on it, so have to do with this one.
Hoping to get a second chance tomorrow...

Unlucky jor[D]1, some of your other photos are fantastic, I like the mood of that one though.

After a bit of deliberation this is probably my entry for this month, Taken a couple of weeks ago in Barcelona, 30" exposure of the sunset over the Port of Barcelona.

Oh I love! Particularly the low shutter speed and seeing the lights train around.

I don't feel that's really Transport focused to be honest. With over a month to go, I think you'd be better finding something that suits Transport, and the theme, better :)

I'm hoping to get something like this or this.
Don't really want to enter those photos as I've used them before. I'd like to try and get some new ones. The foggy weather could make things interesting!

Hmmm, after seeing these and Jamie's and Ameecher's beautiful ones... I'll probably rethink about my entry.

*looks for the camera*

Easy to take :P Practice makes perfect.
I used to do some old ones on an old compact digital camera set to "Firework" mode ;)

With a compact camera place it on a flat surface and fiddle with the settings, you can still get good ones by cranking up the ISO. That shot is a little grainy but still, provided you don't push it too far, you can get good shots. A stable flat surface is key though.

Indeed. I used to place mine on a fence or something. Don't think I could change the ISO setting on it easily though. Then again, back then, I had no idea what ISO was... let alone what it did.

Just realised that I set the topic as Dusk + Nighttime, It's displayed as Dawn + Nighttime. Shall we just agree on Dusk til Dawn? ;)

And thanks Dave.
