ETR = ElettroTreno Rapido, più o meno.
Elettrotreno = convoglio elettrico a composizione bloccata (i veicoli sono sempre gli stessi, spesso gli apparecchi sono divisi fra due veicoli. la prima carrozza e la seconda formano un'unica locomotiva).

ATR = AutoTreno Rapido
Ne sono esistiti solo due tipi: ATR 100, nel 1940 circa, e ATR 410, un pendolino diesel prototipo (made only for test, never went in service).
