Calling all clever Heightmap makers

Please, please, please can someone help me. I've tried creating heightmaps but seem to do something wrong so the whole thing fails spectacularly. What I want to do is create a Heightmap/scenario of my home county, Bedfordshire and the ones that boader it but not being able to do it is driving me batty.

Can some nice person create one for me? Thank you peeps.

check for a guide on how to convert google maps to heightmap, its on these forums somewhere, else teh ESA & NASA have pretty good heightmaps you can find using google

i know i'm just a bit impatient, when you have a clear idea in your head of what you are trying to achieve when creating heightmaps and it all goes to poop no matter how many different things you try you kind of get frustrated.
