Ha, Railways post 1996 in Britain have brought a nice patchwork... It'd be nice to have one livery for once. My local train company is currently in the process of repainting all it's trains into it's new livery even though the old one is only 18 months old! Saying that, with numerous Train Operating Companies losing their franchise and trains being moved around the country a lot has result in a number of hybrid liveries with many just sticking stickers with the name on the company on the old livery. Some interest ones have seen 4 liveries all clearly visible on one, 2 coach DMU. It's not pretty! You don't want that, I'm sure!

But we digress into the misfortunes of pritavisation...

Edit: This is the example I am thinking of...
http://northstar47840.photos.cn.com/p886440.html The initial privatisation livery from when it worked in Northern England.
Then when transferred to Transpennine Express these banners were added over the old livery:
http://mintona.fotopic.net/p41517601.html
Then when transferred to Central Trains in 2005ish the Transpennine branding was covered up with a similar (but not quite the same) maroon banner and Central branding applied: http://rtranmers2007.fotopic.net/p42136391.html
Then the final stage is that the livery remains as above but with "East Midlands Trains" (since Central lost the franchise) stickers and the "Central Trains" name removed. Looks ridiculous, I'm sure you'll agree.

Somewhere along the line, it seems to have gained a middle coach too!

Yeeeeaaaaaas..... OK, OK, OK... You're right... Ocean-blue-Cream. OK. Not green. Understood. But who did recognize the colour of the coaches after two years in service without beeing cleaned? 8) Ah, and the Books by Robert Wagner are great! I've got them, too, but I got them in the early nineties... Don't think that the're reprints 8)

Those were originally released by Franckh-Kosmos publishers somewhere in the 1980s, and reprinted by Weltbild in 1990. Mine are the latter, all acquired through ebay for less than 2 Euros/each. :P

@Ameecher
Yes, the recent development in British rail is indeed very colourful. I´d like that. 8)

Did I? Where? In the DB Set or in the list above? 8)

It´ll be definitely in v0.9 offering push-pull functionality. And o/c it´ll come in steel-blue, green, ocean-blue/cream, orient red and traffic red as well as in two different S-Bahn liveries.

In fact, it´s one of the most colourful engines in the new set.

Hi Michael,

you forgot to mention it anywhere when you were talking about the BR 141. I'm glad to hear that it will be also in blue in the set.

hi michael. This might have been already posted somehow, but there are 121 pages to walk thru, so here i go.

I've recently played with the paxdest patch, and after a certain year (aprox 2032) there are no s-bahn style E/DMU's left in the game. So the question is; will there be any commuter engines that is "lifeless" in the 0.9 version? Particulary high capacity, low speed (typical 100+ ppl/wagon including standing-up-space with like 140kmh max speed)

michael blunck wrote:Or are you refering to former DR stock in cream/green. That may well fit in the years after 1990, though.
i'd really love to have those ;)
michael blunck wrote:BTW, needless to say that all those variations may be achieved by using the DB Set. That´s why there´s no "randomisation". Every coach "remembers" the original livery in existence when bought, and even when "livery override" enters the scene, that information is preserved. I.e., when buying a green "Bm" (long-distance) coach it may be refitted to "Rheingold 2" livery (cobalt blue) and vice versa, but doesn´t change automatically, e.g. to the later TEE cream/red livery with the next override (in fact it´d return to green in that TEE train). In this way, original usage of coaches by the DB is perfectly mimicked.
i am kind of missing the ability to repaint a wagon without selling it. i.e choosing the refit options according to the year the wagon was refitted, instead of when the wagon was built.

Mmh, well. "Repaint w/o selling" would work only by refitting a coach, but not all of the coaches in the DB set are refittable. I.e., in the current version, there are only four of them:

- local | S-Bahn
- Aüm | Büm
- IR |IC 87
- long-distance | Rheingold

all other livery changes are time-based, and thus automatically done.

Moreover, some of these refitting options (e.g. that for "Rheingold") are only available by "livery override", i.e. only when a suitable engine is available. Without, there will be no refitting option at all, and consequently, your approach (keeping the (once) refitted livery available) would be wrong, resp not possible.

In addition, having a "base livery" depending on date of purchase gives a direct hint on the age of a coach, but retaining the last livery refitted to would not.

However, the most important point is the special way the DB did handle all those livery changes, (see http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=659348#p659348 ). The best way to mimic that behaviour is to make livery changes needing active intervention: i.e., if you don´t replace your old caoches, you´ll get the DB "style" automagically.

Hello Michael,
I just noticed the new banner in you signature ... nice... 8)
I just noticed the new rail section in your web site ... nice ... 8)
A bit Eurocentric but that is to be expected. Your North American section is missing one entry ... The largest rail system in North America ... possibly the World ... Canadian National a.k.a. CN.
They have a web site but I won't give you the link. I'll let you Google it for your education.

Hehe. 8)

Well, I still have a lot of Canadian rail-related links, the first ones dating back from the time when I was first working on the "ArcticSet". In fact, I still have some 20,000 railway-related links stored in total (from which 50% should be dead meanwhile, admittedly). 8)

Just be patient, I´ll add more railway-related links whenever I have some spare time (which isn´t likely, but ...)

Thanks for your interest, as usual. 8)

Just now, I´m going to have my famous home-made apple-pie. 8)

And I don´t think I´ll have time to code something after that, because then I´ll have to feed the cats. :P

Always something new from Michael.

One little suggestion: for EX-YU site you can use link to index:
http://www.railfan-belgrade.org/index.html
When you click link "ZELEZNICA" first you obtain nomenclature system for locomotives, and links:
Muzejski eksponati, Parne lokomotive Dizel lokomotive, Električne lokomotive, Motorni vozovi, Uski kolosek point you to almost all locomotives used in EX-YU, sorted in groups.
Unfortunately, site is for now in Serbian only, hope English and German translations will be done soon.

Hi Michael,

Was wondering, will you have any free IDs left under the current 116 ID-schema for v0.9? I am thinking of adding something of my own design for a personal set thats all. Could you specify which IDs are free (if any are), and that would be great.

(Also, any news on the status of 0.9? Untold hundreds of us are eager for its release :P ) (I can already imagine the screenshot boom hehe)

Hello Michael,

viewing some old pictures on the web I had an idea for the DBSetXL. While local and express cars are changing throughout the years, those small carriages availiable right from the start in 1920 remain the same until the end of the game. How about to replace those cars by „Umbauwagen“ (for non-german-railway-techno-bubble-speaking people: Cars that have been rebuilt by using parts of old rolling stock from the predecessors of the „Reichsbahn“)? Cars like this would be ideal for people who do start after 1950 or for really local lines.

Heya Michael,

Not to seem like an obsessive fanboy or anything (Obsessive, yes, fanboy, no.), but I noticed the link to http://www.ewetel.net/~michael.blunck/t ... ngbury.png happens to 404 on your NewStations section. With the description of "Modular sheds and sorting lines", I'm now left awfully curious as to what you're working on .

I hope you are enjoying the easter break, Michael. I can't say I subscribe much to the whole festivity or the religious backing for it, but, certainly, it is a good enough excuse to kick back and relax .

Edit for emote mistake, evil instead of twisted. Can't give the wrong impression.

He is now absent for almost 2 months without notice (also on german forums). I fear, there is something bad happen. Has someone a email or other contact infos and can look about him?

He distributed so nice things to the TTD community, would be very sad, if that all goes lost.
