after playing a game with FIRS for a bit, i have a few opinions:
  • i think the amount of farms on map generation should be tuned up a bit. they have lower output than other primary industries, so there should be more of them. (game was a 1024^2 map with "low" industry density)
  • i didn't see a way to turn metal into building materials. maybe remove goods output from foundry, and replace it with building materials
  • instead of the foundry, a new "car factory" or similar could turn manufacturing supplies into goods
  • there should be a second town-based sink for building materials. goods, food and alcohol do have more than one sink
  • the TE_WATER of "goods" cargo could be done only for desert climate
  • the output of scrap metal should be reduced, given its power in metal production

Deliver farm supplies to your farm and it will increase production. To give an example on a current game I'm playing, a cluster of 10 livestock farms in an area was producing 52 livestock a month before farm supplies. Delivering just two crates of goods to each farm every month increased that to 600 livestock per farm.

Metal goes to Metal Foundry to produce Goods and Manufacturing Supplies, and goes to Machine Shops to produce Farm Supplies and Engineering Supplies. The latter are usually scarce on purpose at the start of the game.

Furniture Factory: Other than the contrast/color, I don't see any difference between the two. I'm happy with either.

Petrol Station: MUCH improved! Although you can get rid of the flower boxes, they take up too much space. Move the convenience store back to the edge where the flower box is now.

maybe move the pumps slightly further inwards under the roof. and always turn the shop entrance towards the pumps.

New petrol pump is *much* better than the old

Few suggestions

All petrol stations have a sign on a pole out front

Shouldn't the base be tarmac on at least some of the base?

Some gas stations I've seen have signs on the roof of the pump area, while some have small or medium sized signs somewhere on the property, while some have both

Stick maybe a car from either GenericCars or the Canadian Station Set? Make it look abit identifiable :)

Thats a good idea, maybe have a car or two at the pumps, alternating in vehicle type and color?

Nope, I wouldn't do that. There are no cars/people in the rest of the town, so there shouldn't be any at the gas station either imo.

I'm waiting for an improved version of action 2 sprites to be finished and in ottd nightly. It's currently possible to solve the slopes problem (the forest does it, and george's farms do it), but it's a lot of code; the new method will make it cleaner.

Does this improve the Furniture Factory? To my eye, the cream-coloured detail on the building stands out too much. It should be grey or brick colour...
