Ships speeds!

I still remember Road vehicles in OTTD being limited to a speed of 127KM/h. It was awesome to be able to have road vehicles running at 160 or 180KM/s!

Some years have passed and SHIPS deserve also some love ;)

Come on guys let's please end one of the last limitations from the original game :bow:

Lol, look I get it, this isn't a high priority feature, nor it missing ruins the game!

But it's one of those old/original limitations that when overcome, would only bring good things and 0 questionable/debatable changes!

How easy it is to implement? I'm guessing very hard or it would already be in trunk, but I do hope that at some point it get's in :)

Adding an additional property to allow faster speeds, as has been done for road vehicles, would probably not be that difficult. But ships require quite a lot of work to make them "interesting", so as you say I doubt this is a priority for anyone. :)

I don't care if they're "interesting" or not. But it would be nice if their performance could be improved.

I suppose if you introduced a much higher speed limit for ships, you could make Ekranoplans. They'd be quite interesting.

I recall hearing that the ship movement handler has to be recoded to support higher movement speeds. Something about movement steps vs. time steps and other such.
