Re: Town growth
why are you so anal about everyone searching? give the noobs a break.
Re: Town growth
That Mr Alien is right, a simple search for "Town Growth" brought up plenty of useful topics.
Your post, kalvingp30fan, was less than helpful. At least IA pointed the OP in the right direction.

Re: Town growth
Well actually, the search is still pretty useless. Its seems to be either:
Build a one way road around the whole village (Not really practical or good on the eye in an alpine scenario)
Don't transport anything there (Kind of defeats the object of a transport network)
Only transport passengers (Which I am already doing)
I was wondering what the experienced users would use if they were trying to prohibit it ? One of the above ?

Has anyone ever tried a "wall" of undestructable buildings?
Does the city jump the wall or will it stop at it?

Re: Town growth
Personally, i think the fact that there isn't a single feature to stop the town growth is ridiculous. I know this game was made a while ago, but its not like they just expand slowly like on TT (say on a 'normal' setting). Has anyone ever tried making a patch or something for it ?

Re: Town growth
There is a patch but it doesn't really do much...
I haven't tested it but you could try this:
In scenario editor build the one-way road like you usually would...
Now put some buildings, trees, large furry cantaloupes, etc. around the road and pray to god that it works.
Your only putting the roads/trees/large furry cantaloupes around the road for ascetic (and population) purposes.
I have tried the one-way road part though, but not the buildings around the scenery.
Hope it helps!

I am currently innactive on these forums, but I will come here every once in a while to check up on things.

Re: Town growth
I'm interested that you find towns are ruining your alpine scenarios, because I tend to find that towns in mountainous areas grow much less in Loco than those with flat land to grow on. Perhaps try raising a wall of land around your towns, with a sloped wall, not a mountainous one - it could be a medieval earthwork. I know the towns can grow up hills, but this seems to happen much less often or to a lesser extent than with flat land.
Also, building your railway stations at ground level can hem in growth on one side of town I find.

Re: Town growth
It wouldn't be so bad if you could just go along once in a while and trim the towns down, but they seem to use incredibly amounts of terraforming, such as flattening the ground for each house on a mountain side. Curse the inability to have foundations

Re: Town growth
Sadly this won't help in your alpine scenario as it can be very expensive. What I do is I build a moat as much around the city as possible. The trick is to keep the tiles adjacent to the moat on the same level as the moat.

Re: Town growth
I have some problems with the town growth myself. See screenshots.

Within the yellow line i made a road and after a few years the city burst out. Can i keep the city only within the limits with a one-way road or can i use other roads as well?
Has anyone an explanation for this ?
1 = Sint Niklaas
2 = Antwerp
3 = Vlissingen

The i have another question, Ive made a map othe south-west of the Netherlands and a big part of Belgium. I set up the railway from Antwerp to Sint Niklaas, a few years it goes well an suddenly the train decided to go to Vlissingen. Why I don't know. Set the route on express first Antwerp and second Sint Niklaas.kalvingp30fan

Re: Town growth
Hello Coen,
Here's an overview of what Greyfox mean's.
I personally do it different. When I use more complex railway-tracks like two or more tracks in either direction I first order a train to go somewhere out of the stationwith a waypoint (Route through Waypoint 1 in this case), then the rest of the waypoints route and finaly the next station itself. Then again an order just outside the station (Route through Waypoint 5 in this case) and waypoints back to the first station. So the station where I placed the train (Flurryborough) after I bought it comes as last on the entire route. Here's a screenshot:

Via this way non of my trains (trams and/or busses) never got lost...
Good luck with this method !

Re: Town growth
If you want to use only a road to stop town growth, only the one-way road works. The town can "take over" any other road and build off of it, but it can't take control of a one-way road.Coen wrote:Within the yellow line i made a road and after a few years the city burst out. There's also the Boundary Fence, which I know you've already seen. The problem is that when the town expands to the edge of the fence, it will build buildings on the fence because it's actually a disguised road.
