Towns too big (for my taste) in new maps

Post by jesuisdvd »

Hey guys, my problem is the following: when i start a new map all the towns i have are to big, for me at least, not less than about 600 citizens. There's anyway to change it as i played in earlier versions (and original one too) to have smaller towns, between 20 to 100 citizens, i've been looking in the options but nothing changes, thanks in advance for any clue or solution!!

Use the "Initial city size multiplier" setting under World generation section of Settings.

Ok, which multiplier should i use, because i used "2", the default, and the smaller ones have more than 400 citizens.

How big a map are you using?
If you use a gigantic map, especially a smooth one, odds are you'll get a few big towns just from luck.

As a possible hack, there is an early houses NewGRF which shrinks the population early on. You could
use that, then cheat the time to your preferred start date. That wouldn't give the towns any time to grow
until you started playing.

Common one, 512x512 or 512x1024, do that grf work with ttrs?

It seems to. I've just tried loading a game with both, and there's no clashes reported.

Ammler's 'Early Houses 2.0 beta' is the population reducer NewGRF.

Did you set a sufficiently early start date?

What is the appeal of small towns, anyway?
The larger a town the more it has passengers/mail to offer or goods to accept.I always start my company with the largest town available.
What leads others to go for "wide spots in the road"?

Being able to start your stations early and have the town grow around it, rather than having to fight for space in the middle of the city.

Also, being able to shape the city and your buildings the way you want it, for the eye-candy lovers among us.

Laying out the street grid is one thing, but how can you control what buildings get built other than your own?

Smaller towns also give you more manageable loads, especially in cargodist. Especially as it's often possible to serve the whole town without any feeder buses/trams.
