General discussions but in a foreign language?

Post by McDeffice »

would it be possible to have a forum for general discussions but in a foreign language?

I would be delighted to have a forum where I and my dear friend draw speak French in our language about OpenTDD.

IIRC there is a separate French forum about OTTD. Google it (in French, of course) and it should be there. I'd find it, but je ne parle pas français.

Here they speak OpenTTD in french too: http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/JeuxVideo/ ... 1177_1.htm
They also run a few servers ... one of them running my patchpack. ;) [/end advertising]

I think I have another link on my other computer at home too ... not sure though.

The official OpenTTD forum is the one you are reading right now yes. ;)

Playing with my patchpack? Ask questions on usage and report bugs in the correct thread first, please.
All included patches have been modified and are no longer 100% original.

People have asked for different language forums in the past, but generally the preference has been to keep these forums English only, I'm afraid, and that is still my preference.

I think for about any other language with a lot of OpenTTD players, there exists an unofficial forum dedicated to the game in that language. And while unofficial, chances are that people there can help somebody just as good als people here.

So I don't think there's a need to have multiple languages here.

Having more than one language sort of defeats the idea of having a forum. The whole idea is to have a community of people discuss with each other, and exchange ideas and tips. If everybody does that in his/her own language, there is no communitiy any more.

the ideas called on an official forum in general includes all ideas no matter the language, it is just an exchange of ideas internationally. what is needed is a bilingual moderator who manages the legal and remained contained for up ideas to your positions. Besides using the adapted and more will, that the project promouvera center dinteret that of the official.

Didn't quite get that.

I know it's a problem if someone doesn't speak English at all, but the truth is, that you really miss a lot on teh interwebs if you're not at least able to read English. The problem is, that if there are multiple language-subforums the community suffers from fragmentation. And some things that have already been dealt with, will be dealt again in each language.

Since people on here are very tolerant to wacky English I also don't think it's necessary. I wouldn't want a German subforum as well, since I would miss Dave's lulz.

I still swear that the English of many of the Continental 'regulars' is better than some of the 'native' English found here!

Not only would select people miss out on select conversations, there would also be a question of where to draw the line. How many people needs to speak a specific language for it to warrant a section of its own.

I want access to every section. I don't speak French or German. Maybe that's my problem, but I don't care.

Let me coin "binarium" instead of plain old bin then. Sound classy :)
