Devon Metro Scenario (Rel)

Post by EXTspotter »

This is the release of the Devon metro Scenario/Map

It is a routemap style map with Exeter in the top right corner and Plymouth in the bottom left corner. It has many of the towns on Beeching lines (like Bovey Tracey and Okehampton) and has the towns on the Main Exeter - Plymouth line, Exeter - Exmouth, Exeter - Barnstaple, Exeter - Okehampton, Newton Abbot - Kingswear, Newton Abbot - Okehampton (via Heathfield and Bovey Tracey), Totnes - Buckfastleigh and Plymouth - Gunnislake. It also has some industries, including some that exist in real life (like the brewery in Newton Abbot (Tuckers Maltings) and Vineyard in Totnes (Sharpham))

However, it is a flat map without coastline or w/e (I couldn't get the map creator make them easily and I tried the program off the internet but I can't get it to work right.

Be warned, there are no walls sepearting lines like many of the scenarios like this, and I know for sure there is somewhere on the map where two lines cross over. The map also isn't particularly geographically accurate, but it was the best i could do! :D

One screenshot -

Totnes station in the change between Steam and Diesel, Plymouth bound platform has a stopping service to Plymouth via Ivybridge on a 104 and on the through line a 45 with 2 Mk1 TSOs and 1 MK1 BCK for a direct service to Plymouth. On the Exeter bound side a Princess Coronation pulls away with a semi-fast to Exeter St. Davids via Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Dawlish.

Sure, however I have been playing all day and have saved over it, it is something like 1972 in it now.

All the steamers have gone :(

I'd rather have diesels that don't break down and clog up the mainlines!

I have a better version now - the passenger trains don't clog up the mainline by going into the Freight platforms and becoming stuck, they still do sometimes, however they can reverse back onto the mainline and fix themselves. Plus you have to try and sort out the loony Coal/Steel problems there are (The coal/Iron trains go everywhere apart from where they are meant to).

Is there another way that you can stop city's getting bigger and only make them small, because i think that you are doing a good job of what you are doing now, and i think that you should make your coal trains go underground to join the other track coming from exmouth.

You send passengers which then create more passengers. Therefore sending more passengers creates more passengers.

Send me some screenies form your game for me to yell at! :p

To stop town growth build a one way road around the town.

Try the first few posts for older versions.

great scenario, The screen shot is amazing, but i tried to saved game and I have 1 suggestion, ro-ro's

(can't wait until next release  )

PS: do you know of any good British steam engines to use on this.
May the force be with you.

There aren't any in the BR pack as of yet, but there is a princess coronation in the works, other than that, only the default steamers.

I would have used roros, however I wanted to keep it as realistic as possible. i.e. 2 platforms and passing lines at Dawlish Warren and Totnes, but also at other stations to get around slow accelerating DMUs holding up the main line. Same reason for the atorcitiy of Exeter St Davids; it should be north south with Exmouth and Plymouth coming in from the south and Barnstaple, Okehampton, the factory complex and coal/iron from the north of the station. However it isn't easy to do this without lots of alterations now! The best I could do is keep it to 6 platforms. Strangely Newton Abbot is the largest on the system with 7 Platforms (like pre-beeching), 4 for mainline, 1 for grain to the brewery with returning line and 2 for the wierd Kingswear - Okehampton line, which are just 2 seperate lines which I put together because it was easier.

Hopefully Plastikman will be getting into BR steamers, he has shown me a model of another he is considering doing, a GWR Pannier which is a great thing for my scenario with all the GWR railcars (links are somewhere in the forums, just search them).

I have adjusted the map again to get Exeter St Davids as a through station. I have also added the GWR Railcars in. Here is a bit of eye candy!

Image

GWR moment at Exeter!

The St. Davids - Central shuttle is ready to go back down the (pseudo-) hill to Platform 2 at St. Davids

The 1st part of the line to Plymouth has been opened up to Starcross, a new railcar on its first journey.

The Mothership on the St. Davids - Exmouth line is going back to the (pseudo-) seaside, via Central, St. James Park, Topsham, Exton and Lympstone Village. It is made up of a 2 car railcar, a 1 car railcar and a 1 car express parcels.

I think Mk2 is ready to be released now.

Here are some more screenshots, now with steam trains as the Mk1 carriage has been released, making them useful!

Image

Starting at Exeter St. Davids, a stopping service all stations to Plymouth is departing platform 3, first stop Starcross made for 3 passenger and 2 mail 1 carriage multiple units. Next on Platform 4 is the Express to Plymouth made up of a Princess coronation, 3 MK1 TSOs and 1 Mk1 BCK, next on platform 5 is 2 2 carriage Multiple units and an express parcels railcar on a semifast to Plymouth via Newton Abbot and Totnes. And finally on Platform 5 is a stopping service made up of a 4MT and 4 Mk1 BCKs.

Image

Following the express, passing Newton Abbot and going around a semi-fast towards Plymouth.

Image

Around the stopper at Totnes.

Image

Between Ivybridge and Plymouth, passing the farm and the grain service back to Tucker's Maltings in Newton Abbot.

Image

First non-stop service arrives in Plymouth.
