I have looked around a bit, and there doesn't seem to be a direct way to export the files from blender to Max. You should have a look at this. They mention .obj in that thread, do you know how to import it?

I tried to export a model, but I just got an error message. So it doesn't seem to work. Atleast not for me.

I just tried stl's and it worked. I saved from blender by - file- export - .stl (4th down), and that then opened fine in max.

It seems I looked in the wrong place. I tried to use a python script and didn't see the export option above it. I have sent you an email now.

A quicky post from me:

I have been sorting through all the rubbish, and found a set of powerlines and woden pilons I made a while ago in Blender. If anyone wants to use them for whatever (even non OTTD related) feel free, if you use it for anything cool give me a shout though as I would be interested. The transformer box probably could do with a bit more detail, but hopefully someone will find this useful.

I don't really have any reason to post these, but I am extremely bored right now, and the oscars never seem to start. So here we go. I still haven't figured out how the company colours will work, so I just played around with it, trying to improve my textureing skills.

in alla4.png the 1st one --
The orange colour as company colour and the whitestripe standard (would look nicest)

alla3.png the 1st one --( Xhectorrail)
The orange stripe on the bottom as company colour??
(I like the Xhectirrail best out of 4, the vents on the side seems more realistic)

Excellent, Crazy Vaclav, it's beautiful indeed.

Lucaspiller, your model is also nice, but not as stunning as these trains, you know  How about your tries on catenary system, assuming OTTD will have electrified railways before new graphics?

This is how company colors most likely will be done (as explained in a sticky by Alltaken). We can take the orange train with the white stripe as an example again. First you take your ordinary rendered image, somewhat like the ones above. Then you rerender it using flat colors (or whatever it is called), one for each company color (for instance, red green and blue), and a fourth color (ie black) for all parts that will not have company colors. You would most likely make the orange part flat red, the white stripe flat green and the rest flat black.
Then you render this to an indexed png file. The png file will only need to be 2bpp as it should only use four colors, but it will work with 8bpp indexed files too. You have to make sure that the no cc parts are colored with color index 0, the cc1 parts with color index 1, cc2 parts with color index 2 and cc3 parts with color index 3.
The game will then let the player choose hue and saturation for each of its three company colors, and use that together with the brightness of the image pixel when rendering. For pixels without company color, it will render them as they were in the image.

In relation to there being no textures on the wiki site, Ive made some tileable textures and bump maps over the last few days, but theve mounted up to 95 meg...so not shore what to do with them now. But ill attach a print screen of them. I havnt had the chance to go to a town to get any urban textures as of yet.

Ive also made a sky/horizon texture to map onto a sphere, for reflections and stuff if this is needed as a texture.

Ben, the pictures you sent me looked great, but I have unfortunately not been able to use them yet.

I found this site that I thought might inspire people who are making buildings. You can find some really nice stuff here. Especially in the " Construction & proposals" part.

I myself visit buildings sites and I have long known skyscraper city forums.. There is a section practically for every major city in the world. Lots of picture can be found there. I recommend everyone to visit it.

I did this refinery some time ago, but then I forgot about it. I don't think the individual objects are bad, but I don't like the composition. It just looks too messy. Should I remove some of the things, or is it enough to just move them around a bit?

Doesnt look messy at all. Teesside (UK), has a large steel Works/Chemical Works and factories and is just mile after mile of factorys, pipes and chimneys that link together. The chimneys you have on the model look really good, but the rest is a little bubbelly. I cant find many good images of the ICI building, but it would be a good reference image.

This is the Milford Haven Refinery, wich is a pretty standard one.

If you want anymore textures doing, just send them, and ill give them ago.

Messy? That isn't messy enough!

Suggestions:
Oil tanks usually have stairways/catwalks crisscrossing each other, with a fence around the top.
Image

Pipes connecting all tanks and distillers would give a good effect too.

Crazy Vaclav, I think you got the messiness about right (or perhaps too tidy)!

Have a look at http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=oil+refinery and you'll see that real ones are like yours, but generally less pretty.
