Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Post by GarryG »

I started to final play a game with the NSWTrains and noticed the Guard didn't couple up the tenders to the carriages properly, there was a bit of a gap between them.

So I gone back to the programming and while at it made 6 more NSW Steam locos for the next issue.

These will be Z15, Z16, 36M, 13, 23 and the 10 class.

I since found a book called Locomotives of New South Wales 1855 - 1980 Volume 1 it confirms some of the classes of locos when first entered service.

NSW now has 17 steam locos before 1900 starting as early as 1855. Total NSW Steam locos to date 32.

Shame some fellas from other States not offer to help do sprites for their States. Maybe NSW trains are better and they happy to use them instead of their own State. :D

Come on fellas even if you can do some passenger coaches, EMUs and DMUs from your State will help greatly. They easy to do. Just download the Templates a few sections above. All you have to do it colour them to your State colours, put in some windows and doors, and send them to me.

At least you had a go .. but don't give up .. I first wanted to start doing these trains back in May this year .. see page 1. Took me a few months to actually get the knack.

Good things about these forums, there are lots of fella who will help you.

I tried for a short time and give up for days and some times a few weeks before trying again, and eventually getting somewhere.

Take a look at the template http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... 0#p1160293.

My mistake when first started I wanted to jump in the deep end before I learn to swim. My first few tries was trying to do locomotives and failed badly.

How I eventually learned what to do, downloaded sprites from other peoples projects.

First practiced with passenger coaches drawing over the top and recolouring them. Practice with learning to do carriages as they the easiest to learn as they basically square boxes.

To learn to do locomotives, do the same use sprites already done, and draw over the top of what they did and recolour.

I like the sprites that Voyager One was done for 2ccts set. Some have blank blue squares below what been down .. these blank spaces a good place to practice to draw what in the boxes that Voyager One has already done.

Should I start using sprites that others have done?

I found sprites on the following forums sites

Victorian Railway stuff : http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=38192

Mostly NSW, but some from other States to: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... &start=100

I've attempted to make contact with the persons involved in each set but have not had any replies.

I think those in the VicRail Set would feel proud that someone would be interested it using their work .. it shows the time and effort they put in to making them was not wasted.

What you all think .. should I start using the VicRail sprites?

If any one knows of any other posts in these forums apart from the "2cc" and the ones I mentioned that I can find Australian Sprites let me know.

Danmack did some lovely sprites here http://users.tt-forums.net/danmack/AusSetTable.html hope to get his permission soon to use some of those too.

Here's the latest versions of AuzTrains and NSWTrains.

Added:

NSW Steam locos Z15, Z16, 36M, 13, 23 and the 10 class.
Pacific National NR Class Diesel

Added to the NSWTrains standard gauge locos from other States that have ventured into NSW such as Victorian railways G and N class diesels, Pacific National G class and Australian National AN class.

Update:

Danmack has kindly given me permission to use his sprites.

Thanks to him I have added the following:

44, 48 and 49 class diesels and 620 class DMU in Candy Livery .. these will become available in 1980

48 Class in Blue and white livery available in 1972.

620 class DMU CityRail Corporate grey and blue available in 1995

Added a Commonwealth Railways loco GM class diesel to AuzTrains.

Thanks to Danmack will be adding others over the coming days .. see his website if you want to see what will be added. http://users.tt-forums.net/danmack/AusSetTable.html

I intend to use his colour schemes for the majority of what I use as recognition and appreciation to his hard work.

And mixed a error in NSWTrains as only just noticed it also loads as with the name a AusTrains. (I spend more time coding then I do testing and playing).

Cheers

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Post by GarryG »

I just put NSWTrains on Bananas as I hope not to do any more for a while.

Want to get my scenario finished and update the AuzInd I ben working on.

The version that is on Bananas has the following updates:

Australian National EL Class
National Railways 81 Class
National Railways NR Class Orange and Grey livery
National Railways NR Class Steelink Livery
National Railways NR Class Seatrain Livery
National Railways NR Class Trailerail Livery
National Railways NR Class The Ghan Livery
XPT Set in the 1995 Livery of Dark blue, light blue and white

I changed a few Model Life Settings: To give you and idea .. The first XPT started in 1983. This set will expire 15 years later because of the 1995 set. The 1995 set at the moment Vehicle_Never_Expires until such time I get chance to make a set in the 2000 livery.

Some other locomotives will also expires soon after a New Livery is available. The 44, 48 and 49 class will not expire when new liveries available as I noticed these where often repainted back to their original colours later.

Hope to put AuzTrains on Banana tonight too.

Thanks to Danmack and NekoMaster I have some more sprites to add to AuzTrains and NSWTrains.

I intend to keep their sprites in the colours supplied for now. Main idea is to get all these trains into the game before they gather dust.

Hope to release another test set here in a day or three.

Sprites for South and Western Aussie be appreciated if anyone know of any.

Cheers

Update: I gonna use this as my notepad and list what I added for next issue. Will update each time I add something to AuzTrains and NSWTrains.

Queensland Rail 1150, 1200, 1450 and 4000 class Diesels and 35 and 39 class Electrics.
Queensland Rail SMU 200 and SMU 220 (EMUs)
NSW 80 class Blue Livery
Silverton 80 class

Just a minor thing. NSWTrains downloaded via Bananas shows up as 'AuzTrains' in the NewGRF Settings window too. You can still tell them apart by checking their filenames though.

Thanks Gremnon .. I uploaded the wrong one so it seems as showed up ok in my test.

I fix shortly.

I in the process of adding the 442 class in the Blue and Candy colours so I might as well include these when I update NSWTrains on bananas.

Update:

Reloaded the NSWTrains .. had to call it version 3 as I don't know how to call it 2.1. When I tried got errors in NML. Not except the period.

Also updated AuzTrains on bananas too .. it has the trains mentioned above.

Did not add the 442 classes as the sprites I been sent a bit small and need more work done to them.

Thanks to DanMark, NekoMaster and a few sprites I found I now have 98 to check and add what I can to what I doing. Some are double ups, and some are ones I already did my self, but think will get a good lot from them.

Thanks NekoMaster for you compliment. :)

It a bit early to place on Bananas. It playable but no where near finished. Kinda hoping some of those who download it might venture over to the forum and offer to start doing some sprites for the other States for me, especially steam locos and coaches. :)

Update to the next release:

NSW 45 class Diesel Candy Scheme
Victoria N Class Diesel in Red and Blue scheme
Victoria X Class Diesel
NSW M-Set Millennium EMU
Repainted the NR 80 class as had it in Pacific Nation colours.

Will not release the next one until I here from a few fellas who made some of the sprites I got. I know in their licence agreements and what they put in the forum, they say feel free to use their projects as long as I credit it to them, but I bit old fashioned, I still feel it nice to still ask permission. Some of the fellas I sent PM and emails too not been active for a very long time, but will still give them a bit more time to see if they answer.

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Post by NekoMaster »

I know the set is still in early development but heres some issues I've found with Version 2

- The GM Class locomotive has the same specs as the 44 Class, the GM Class originally had 1500 HP but later units where 1750 HP according to wikipedia
- The 46 Class and 45 Class (Green Beattle) are electric locomotives but have the wrong power type Icon (using the diesel icon instead of electric)

I was also thinking that the list should be better organized Based on power type then Railroad then by Year. (So For each power type, steam, diesel, and electric, each group would then be sorted by company, and then for each company group, it'd be sorted by year)

When organizing by power type (Steam, Diesel, Electric), theres two ways this could be done

2cc Set way

Steam Railbus
Diesel Railbus
Electric Railbus

Steam Engine
Diesel Engine
Electric Engine

Steam Multiple Unit
Diesel Multiple Unit
Electric Multiple Unit
(Multiple units include express and high speed stuff like the TGV, IC125, UAC Turbo, XPT, etc)

Or you could go with this way for organization

Steam Engine
Steam Multiple Unit
Steam Railbus

Diesel Engine
Diesel Multiple Unit
Diesel Railbus

Electric Engine
Electric Multiple Unit
Electric Railbus

(I think this one is more like the Original TTD style of sorting engines)

I dunno if you understood any of that, sometimes my way of thinking can be confusing, though I hope that helps

Thanks again Nekomaster, I don't get much time to test them properly as I can not sit at computer to long a time, so I concentrate on making and coding the trains for the game.

I usually start at the project about 9 in morning and don't close shop till around midnight, but need lots of breaks every few hours, some times sooner. That one of the reasons only a few get done each day. They slow and stead wins the race. I just a bit slower than slow.

I've not been able to figure out how to make them sort, so haven't spent much time in that section yet.

When I do I think be nice something like you said, in their respective types, also in release order and might be nice separate the companies so each company trains be together.

The Railbus, DMU and EMU basically the same .. one developed from the other, so these could be grouped too. DMU and EMU are basically improved versions of the RailBus.

Keep coming with the ideas and teething problems you finding .. much appreciated.

Cheers

I think I figured out how to put the trains in a certain order, but before I do this, need to be sure how they best done, as to change things going to take me many hours and more to change it.

I thinking something like this:

Steam Locos
Diesel Locos
Electric Locos

Steam RailBus
Diesel Railbus
DMU

Electric Railbus
EMU

Multi trains like:
Silver City Comet with its carriages
XPT with its carriages
those that have their own power car and trailers

Any comments appreciated .. because once I change it I will not change it again.

That also works, so long as each power/train type is sorted to make buying certain/similar locomotives/trains easier. Also, like I said, it might be nice After being sorted by type to have them sorted by Company so that people wanting to play as a certain company can find stuff from VR, QR, or NSWGR easier

changing the order in the buy menu is really easy, at the end of your nml file, just add the statement:

Code: Select all

sort(FEAT_TRAINS, [Vehicle1, Vehicle2, Vehicle3, ...]);

Thanks Eddi for .. when I first started usuing the 2ccts.nml to learn what to do, I just copied everything Transportman had down to the first few trains and practiced till I got it to work.
Then I made templates for each type of vehicle as separate text files and just copy these over to my nml file as needed and fill in the blanks.

Because all was working I never scrolled all the way down to the bottom and seen the sort(FEAT_TRAINS, he had there.

You just proved that can teach an old dog some new tricks.

Thank you kindly.

Now as for sorting, I think a combination of what Andythenorth and Nekomaster ideas.

Steam: Sort by company and in release date order.
Diesel: Sort by company and in release date order.

Multi-units such as
Those that has there own power unit and coaches, such as XPT, Silver City Comet and 400 class Railbus.

DMUs with the Steam Railbus and Diesel Railbus first.
EMUs with Electric Railbus first.

Then coaches in release date order until such time I start getting some from other companies.

Then Wagons.

Thanks fellas for your support.

On a different subject .. Some sprites I found on the forum http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=38192 I sent PM and emails to those involved several weeks ago but had no replay.

I see that site been inactive since 2008 and so have many of those involved in it. So those sprites don't go to waste I intend to start using them, and leave a reference on the sprites who made the original and also leave credit it the readme and changelog files of my sets, and also on this forum. I think those fellas would appreciate it if they seen their efforts at long last came to good use.
