We're using a software to run our firm that we got from our Dutch friends, they took over our company way back in the eighties
This was written in cobol, no questions asked
The sources date from 1985, we haven't been able to find a similar package on the market that fits our needs
So now we are still running in cobol, but on up-to-date Unix mainframes
As we have a bit of a cash-flow problem things aren't looking great
But it is the intention of changing in a year or 2
I think it will be oracle based, but the soft on top ???
Hopefully something non-cobol so we can learn a new language

I guess the old business rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applys in your case.spaceman-spiff wrote:We're using a software to run our firm that we got from our Dutch friends, they took over our company way back in the eighties

well put, this is exactly what our bosses think
but cash-flow is big problem too:
it gets us in spirals without end, our database gets more important , so more people are using it , but our server can't cope with it , so we tell management that we need to get a better one , but they say we have no money , so we continue , but they need more reports , so everything is getting more and more delayed , ...
