The line to Bremen and Witten leaves to the right of the picture and the line to Kassel and Aachen to the left. As it is the terminus of many lines there are a number of passengers transitting through the station. There are plans in the pipeline for a highspeed line to Aachen to operate from this station.
Wihlemshaven station's layout remebers me Dresden Hbf with the passenger building in the middle of two track groups and a street running under them:

Am I wrong or aren't any freight trains? I hope to see more screenshots as the network will expand.

Indeed there is no freight. This game is merely an exercise in passenger destinations. Currently figuring that out is preventing me from doing freight stuff as well as the fact that there is actually very little useful industry about!

Edit: In hindsight Wilhelmshaven does look a bit like Dresden but that was unintentional. Originall when built Wilhelmshaven was 4 tracks. The 4 closest to the city then I expanded it to have more through tracks and did it like this... Unconventional but it looks quite good.

Yeah. And I doubt that, even if it was by Foster, it would have gathered him the Stirling Prize. (Like the one in Furlani´s post did). 8)

Nah, not that Foster ... :P

Uninspiring station? Uninspiring city! WHV is one of the youngest and most boring cities in Germany, beeing built from scratch at the turn from 19th to 20th century as harbour of the Kaiser's fleet...

Oh yes! I didn´t want to write it here in public, because it could have hampered the efforts of the local tourist board to quite some degree. 8)

The date itself is not a bad selling date (early late 19th-early 20th had plenty of beautiful Beaux Arts and art deco stuff), but the utilitarian origins the city are probably the single issue there.

Art deco > Bauhaus and utilitarianism at any time of the day. However, sometimes an overwhelming portion of boredom can be quite inspiring to me.

Anyways, I've always been a fan of this thread, please continue! Be sure to use the Japan Set when it's finished for a change. Maybe it will change your vision on playing (O)TTD. I hope we'll finish it soon. ;) *oh, the boldness*

I think Bauhaus and the International Style did some fine stuff. I can even appreciate a healthy bit of brutalist architecture. About the only type of building I really don't like is the little-textured glassbox skyscraper, like, say the Sears Towers (its shape cannot balance that boringness) or 7 WTC. If you look at it and you see primarily surrounding buildings reflected in the windows, I see that as a problem.

Right folks, tried pax dest all very nice but I wanted to try free-form map edges so I upgraded to the latest nightly. Now let's set the scene of this game.

A small breakaway state in central Europe has gained independence. However, after years of neglect it's transport system lacks somewhat. On the 4th of December 1973 when the country gained independence the state railway was in a sorry state. Just two lines existed from the capital, Hanover, to Goerlitz, a seaside resort and Kiel, a fairly insignificant settlement that once was a major junction. The stock that runs the line is at best of 1950s vintage and is in a terrible state. In many places the line has been singled to save on maintenance and points removed. At Hanover lines of defunct locos litter the sidings and unused stock stands in platforms. A few knackered railbuses provide the commuter service into the station and a BR01 that's seen better days runs to Kiel. On the other line a V140 runs the local stock.

Kiel, a shadow of it's former self. 2 platforms lie isolated and the yard below the station is empty. The lines from here have been severed leaving this as an unlikely terminus. The line to Berlin, the second city in the new state used to run through the cutting to the top of the picture.

Goerlitz, the station sees a 4 times daily service to Hanover but the docks and associated sidings see no traffic.

A map of the new country. The stations on the line to Berlin are largely intact and it is hoped that the line to Berlin can be restored quickly as it was only recently removed. Rail infrastructure and routes in other places are long gone though having been built over and destroyed.

Berlin, the station remains complete with tracks but the canopy was partially removed in the early 1950s due to it's dangerous condition. The railway here closed in 1969 and the tracks removed just days later. Reinstating services shouldn't be too hard as the trackbed remains.

The mainline to Kiel was electrified as the first stage of the project of renewing the transport system. Second hand ET-30s from Germany were brought into use on the line to replace the railbuses.

The line on to Berlin was partially reopened (though not yet as far as Berlin). The line to Kiel was electrified and serviced by BR181s purchased new from Germany but the line beyond Kiel was not intended to be electrified at this stage, as such a change of loco would be required. Here the changing manouvere is taking place, the BR181 will run into the siding to be replaced by a BR218 to continue to Hamm. The new sheds tend to the diesel fleet with the electrics being maintained at Hanover. Light maintenance can be carried out at Kiel if necessary, however.

Interesting idea and the screenshots are very nice as always. I do have one question: How did you start a game with platforms already in place or did you just start there for the sake of the storyline?
