Corporate ownership of TT
I'd say the manual needs a complete redo. That's not to say we should start from scratch, we can start off of the original PDF and work from there. But it wants color pictures which the PDF doesn't have, and other improvements and updating. I believe an HTML manual would work better than a PDF one.
Wasn't there a project some while back to do a manual, that disappeared after a while?

I can't imagine that it would be possible to Patch a Playstation game the way you can a PC game, anyway. As well as not worthwhile. Dos and Windows versions are quite enough to keep the Patch crew busy.

OK, here's the Final Word on the corporate ownership of TTD.
Everybody other than Atari agrees that Atari almost certainly owns the rights to TTD.
Atari says they may or may not own the rights to TTD, but they are too busy doing other things that they don't even want to spend the time on finding out whether they own it or not. It's so old, they just plain don't care.
Well, at least this means nobody is at all likely to get sued over it.

I never asked him. Everybody I talked to is sure that he does NOT own the rights. Maybe he would get some sort of royalties, I don't know, but he doesn't own the rights as far as anybody says. On his website he gives the usual disclaimer about not copying software, go buy it, but of course you all but can't anymore. And I did my best to make it possible to buy a legal copy again. Oh well.

Well, in effect we can do whatever we want to do, but we can't try to sell anything. Pity. I had hoped there mught be some funds to help out you deserving coders.
As far as the code, I'll bet the code isn't on a computer anywhere. Probably it's in someone's basement on an old backup tape, which may or may not work. And, of course, we strongly assume Chris Sawyer has a copy of the code. But I doubt we can get it from him.
There might be other means to that end though.

Agreed. At the least, he could probably confirm who really owned it. Maybe he could get it declared abandonware, and donated to the open source communuity for a tax-writeoff?
One of you has been in contact with him before, right? I never have.

FishUK is actually just a couple of guys. I should say was, it isn't operating anymore.
They have a website still up
http://www.fishuk.com/
but it hasn't been updated since 2001 apparently.
As far as Chris Sawyer, I've never tried to contact him. I know where his website is:
http://www.chrissawyer.com/
I recall reading somewhere in these forums that someone did contact him, and he is sick of the pestering of TTD fans. I don't imagine he would be of a mind to help. Does anyone reading this, recall anything about it? I'm reluctant to ask him out of the blue this way, I think there are better ways.

It's a fact the webmaster will actually remove ANY emails when you try to email chris...
And a developer who isn't nice to fans, will only have fans who aren't nice to the developer... you hear me, chris?? -_-
