 BRILLIANT! Oz, you are the MAN! Those are incredible. Now all we need is a sprawling 5X6 square steel mill complex to go with it. That little piddly one in TTD doesn't deserve these stations!

Awesome work man :D

Cheers!

hey, I heard that the US set needs maglevs, and I made one (more vehicles are in planning stage) for OTTD actually because of the large maps, but krtaylor said something about modifications that can be done to my vehicle to make it fit in the US set, please tell me what you all think. :D

krtaylor's mention to Mr. X to post his Maglev here prompted me to post something I doodled up awhile back. More detail is needed, but below is a basic outline for a couple of maglev trains.

Mr. X, nice looking train! Is it Company Colour?

I'd say we limit Maglev to Passengers, Mail, Valuables/gold/diamonds and Goods

That looks real flash DanMacK!

Yours too Mr. X

Should there be a specific colour scheme for maglevs?

I agree with Dan about limiting what maglevs can carry.

There are no maglevs in the US, but several planned, including:

LA - Las Vegas
Orlando area
Baltimore - Washington
North Carolina / Research Triangle
Texas / Golden Triangle.

I know the LA and BWI ones, at least, have online mockups, so we can see what they'd look like and model them.

It's not company colours, and I second the idea that maglev's must only support Passengers, Mail, Valuables/gold/diamonds and Goods,
(I don't know much of US set and what types of trains is being used, but maybe we can use monorail as a fast type of freight transportation.)

Well, I disagree on doing any specific prototypes, esp. for the freight ones.

The station for the steel mill is quite nice and would look excellent as part of an industrial park. Now depending upon how much realism you might wish to portray, along with a possible future ability to show these stations "alive" (that is, with moving aspects) here are my thoughts:

- The yellow cranes look too new. Perhaps a bit of random wear and tear could be added in terms of chipped paint, dents within the lattice, and dirt and grease around where the cables would be moving.

- The same yellow cranes represent lateral movement too, correct? That is, they are suppose to slide along the track to load train cars? Then the rails along the whole length of the building and framework would be coated with grease with patches here and there of bare metal. The rollers within the crane would be digging into such structures and thus paint would be gone.

- The entrance / exit to the section of station that appears to be enclosed (appearance of a barn entrance perhaps) should have at least the area right above the entrance darkened with soot. Steam engines, and later diesel engines, with a full load of steel would be heavily powering the horsepower to achieve some acceleration and thus blasting exhaust.

- And for kicks on the horror side, take one of the pixel people from Michael Blunk's stations and stick part of it under a coil of steel.

Overall, excellent work!

Great steel stations. Will really spice up TTD.

Can you have some sort of chimneys / smoke stacks on top of the old steel station's slanting roof. I dunno how that would look, but I am guessing that would add a nice touch.

And yes, Maglev Sets in US Set are needed. After 1930, there is not much to build since the network is pretty much completed - you just have to look for lost trains, stuck up junctions and some PBS crashes.

What about food? I believe that would be transported via Maglev due to its speed.

Personally I'm more inclined to have Maglev restricted to passengers and mail only. If the US ever gets maglev, it will be passengers only, not even mail. Certainly there won't be any nationwide freight maglev network, it makes no sense. Very few goods have that sort of need for speed to make it worthwhile, and those that do are generally low in weight and can travel by air.

Thanks, again, everyone for the comments. Reminds me that I do this stuff as a hobby for a reason.

Axl: You are correct, sir! Scuffing is in order. I'll see what I can do.

Stratosphere: I like the idea of stacks. Not full-out smokestacks, but maybe some piping. Hmmmm.... Let me dig around the 'net for awhile.

My two cents: Maglev should mainly be passengers and mail, until a later date, say 2020, when some politician gets up the gumption to go against the current fossil fuel addiction. Then, maybe, start using a maglev system for goods and cargo.

For people interested in American maglevs, here are the official sites for the projects in planning.

Baltimore-Washington:
http://www.bwmaglev.com/default.htm

LA - Las Vegas:
http://www.maglev-train.com/home.asp

One I didn't know about, in Pittsburgh:
http://www.maglevpa.com/

The above three have received federal design funds of almost $1billion, so have some chance of maybe becoming real. The rest I mentioned are closer to pipe dreams.

All have design studies and, more particularly, art of what the trains would look like. So we could actually model them in something resembling realism, at least as much as the HSE Sunset!

OK, Interurban cars

Wood interurban takes up one slot, just can be refitted to passengers, mail, goods, food (possibly Valuables)

Express car can go behind passenger wood interurban

4th slot should be reserved for Electroliner (Still in the works)

Specs to follow soon
