Very nice shots Ameecher. Now that PBS is back in OpenTTD, maybe I should give it another try. :)

That's some good stuff as always, so many screenies!! Maybe revive my thread when uni packs up for a month at Easter, or sooner, who knows, just depends when I get 'the itch' :P

3 HOURS LATER... Said itch was indeed acquired, and several annoying stations were fixed! Now, if only I could reclaim that time and do my homework, rats.

Major changes have taken place in a number of areas of the network. Firstly, the introduction of the ICE High speed trains on Moenchengladbach to Jena intercity services.

The building of a new direct line between Jena and Plauen to avoid the stations at Kassel and Magdeburg. This is the junction at Jena (unfortunately, the opening ceremony was marred by a signalling accident in the suburban platforms).

And where 20 years ago there was a 4 track mainline, there is now a 2 track secondary line, an autobahn and a light rail line.

The moenchengladbahn carraigeway of the autobahn was realigned to allow the construction of the light rail line between Dessau and Paderborn.

In Moenchengladbach itself the old North station was demolished and the route to Reutlingen rebuilt as light rail in order to increase capacity on the route. The first tram passes the former stock of the line after having just crossed the old bridge from the former North station site which has been redeveloped as a major public transport interchange.

In Reutlingen the central station was also rebuilt as a tram/bus interchange with the local electric railway being cut back to the lower station in the town. The Reutlingen - Hamm - Moers line will also be rebuilt as light rail. The Moenchengladbach light rail line follows the former heavy rail route to the edges of Reutlingen before running on the street (the old line can be seen bottom left corner of the shot).

The line to Hamm and Moers was soon rebuilt to the new system too with a new road built adjacent to the line.

and Moers... (note the old station building was listed and has such, been incorporated into the new interchange).

Of note is this shot of Reutlingen, Hamm and Moers before the conversion to Tram took place. The stock used on the line was old and decrepid and couldn't handle the large volumes of passengers that used the service. The stock was retained and now runs the Dresden - Saarbrucken - Reutlingen services (which continue to use the station in the bottom left of this picture - which had an extra platform added).

wow, these screenshots area absolutly brilliant.
question though what made you decide to use trams instead of trains on that particular route?
do you just go with what feels right at a moment in time or plan this all out from the very start?

The line that got converted to trams from trains was really an afterthought when a bus service made the cities explode. As such the line was really craply built with insufficient capacity and the cities had grown in a way that made doubling not worth it. Trams are better because you can run more (2 tracks on 1 tile, not 1) and they aren't that much slower (so long as you use the modern trams anyway). The idea of the conversion appeared to me in the 1970s but I had to the wait for a decent tram in the 1990s to do the conversion. In the interim period I just piled more trains onto the line until it nearly collapsed...

And thanks for the comments :)

With 100 trains demanding replacement and 4 times as many road vehicles wanting the same it was time to start a new game...

On a 512*128 map with towns set to Normal, Terrain set to Mountainous, Lakes to Low and Industries to very low, an entreprenuer set up a transport company...

1) Oldenburg, the temporary terminus of the first line built the company. Currently the loco enters the platform, releases the coaches before running round the train.

2) Mulheim is rapidly turning into the hub of the network. Despite having a wealth of experience in the railway industry, the engineering team failed to provide enough capacity for the prospected growth, particularily when the high level platforms were added 2 years after the initial train service. 2 more platforms are planned here seeking consent from the local authority.

3) Essen is a small town high up in the mountains to the East of Mulheim. It lies in a small pass through to the other valley and is currently the terminus until founds allow extensions.

It is planned to have a mainline from Kaiserslauten through Mulheim and Bergisch Gladbach to Bielefeld and/or Kassel. Depending how the Managing directors contend with the Passenger Destinations patch may well make a change to these plans with an emphasis more on a number of hubs with lots of branches.

Company details as of 1925. Not much to see here...

Its part of a small set I've been making, although it isn;t released yet. Its very neary done, but I just haven't had the time to finish it off, although I gave a couple of people some test versions. Although as today is the first day of a 5 week easter holiday I should be able to find some time. So I wont clutter up ammechers thread anymore, and keep your eyes peeled in the graphics section... I will get it done soon......promise.

Nice to see them in use though. And I really like the long thin maps you can have in OTTD.

A few years have passed and company is beginning to make some money. Gradually...
4) ...mainly due to the introduction of freight. Here a double headed wood train climbs a spiral to collect another load of wood.

5) Passenger destinations is beginning to annoy me because it's confusing me. Mulheim has a lot of passengers waiting to go to Oldenburg yet if I set up a direct Mulheim to Oldenburg service it won't carry a full load leaving hundreds still wanting to go to Oldenburg. Any ideas from anyone?

6) Bielefeld has been reached from Mulheim. In platform 3 an EMU stands between duties. Intercity services between here and Mulheim are operated by a pair of BR01 locos with 8 coaches.

Nice looking shots as always Ameecher. I do have a question though. Those catenary poles, with the yellow at the bottom, are these from mph's set as well. Or did I miss something again (not usual with the renewal rates of all the sets around).

Looking good, but how did you get that EMU to stop in the middle of the platform rather than at the end?

I'm using the Gonozal build of OTTD which has this patch which means all trains stop so they have an equal distance from each end of the platform all the time.

Edit: Pug, they are part of the Czech railset.

The following screenshots show what happens when you get carried away...

1936, the company has been established for 13 years and Birkenhead is a major junction, just down the line from Cheadle (the capital of the region). In the early 30's through lines were added to the station, however as suburban services grew, it was necessary to add more platforms to the station involving relocation of the fast lines and what not. So here we are before:

British Railways, 26th May 1936.png (178.72 KiB) Viewed 2304 times
2 years later and the majority of the works are complete.
British Railways, 6th Jun 1938.png
British Railways, 6th Jun 1938.png (208.74 KiB) Viewed 2291 times
By 1955 the WCML had been quadrupled to allow the expresses to run at top whack for as long as possible. This meant the construction of another set of flyovers to the North. There have also been some other minor alterations to the previous layout (another underpass at the south end).
