Improving Picture Quality

Post by Loosemoose »

The problem with the LoMo screens is that everyone is blaming the lack of quality on the JPEG compression, which is true, it does ruin the smooth quality of images and produces a speckled pattern that makes images 'washed out' and pale.

But if you load up all 3 screens into Paint Shop Pro and run the moire removal with the default values of 1 and 0 on them, you get a much warmer, smoother and more colourful image. Just try it, it really works. Also, try playing with the JPEG artifact removal. I managed to get a very smooth image, but you lose a lot of the smaller details like streetlights and grass texture.
I'm not sure if these techniques are available in Photoshop, but if they are, try them and wow at the improvements.

I'm sorry, but are that the reverse transformations for better to JPEG? Even then, look at the way track is layed. You ever seen it so chaotic as on the suspended curves?

I agree, the raised track, placed on triangular, box-based pillars looks very crude, but if you assume that this system is based on the path laying in RCT, then blocky, square supports would be inevitable. As long as you assume that improvements have to be made, and that CS would never release a game with graphics this poor, then its not really a problem. What everyone seems to be forgetting is this is a 'systems' test, to see if the old engine can be adapted to a new style of game. As soon as more advanced screens come out, showing a more developed game, then we might be in a position to start complaining about what may or may not be permanent features. If you read too much into these limited screens, you might as well say, "i'm not buying LoMo, it hasn't got lorries, boats or industries in it!", when it obviously isn't finished, or even properly started!

Well, the graphics look too Simutrans-ish (sorry, that was the only way to describe them) and they are nowhere near the great quality of TTD's graphics. These new ones have a far too low saturation and they look boring and pale as opposed to TT/TTD/RCTs which have high saturation and look vibrant and attractive.

Eh, I don't mind them. I don't like seeing the negativity from people about them, as they ARE only new (as people have pointed out), and they will probably need work (read as: they look good, but need a lot of work ;)).

Also, the current train graphics from MB slam Locomotions train graphics ;)

However, all looks good so far, it seems to have some good elements of TT in it (ie you can see the similarities), but also taking it to the next level.

If I see another 'graphicsgoodbad' topic I'll scream

Honestly, do you really think that the man who made TT will make a more crapier looking game ?
No, he will make damn sure that it's better, so I say let's wait and see

he prolly showed some "working" stuff, some basic stuff so he can work on it and testing things out with having a somewhat good graphics, but the finishing is just in the later bit.

I dunno. Chris usually will not announce details/screenshots of his games until they are close to publication. So what we are seeing could well be similar to what we will receive in the box.

It's a bit too bland for my liking. The main problem I have is the roads, they are just too plain. I'd also like the colours to be bumped up a bit, more like the level of TT. Making the grass more green would be nice.

But the one thing I'm really loving the the airport, A LOT better than the original.

They're better than TTD's. If the game is as good as TTD, then I'd play this instead of TTD, because the graphics are better.

Yes, they could be better. But graphics often change a heck of a lot between the first time screenshots are released and the time the game is finally released. Let's wait a bit longer before writing off the game based on the graphics. The original was never about graphics anyway (although they were very good for the time!), it was about the gameplay.

Well i like it

Hi, i'm new to the forums and can I just say whilst i think the grafix are not outstanding, I think they may help gameplay a lot. Most games where the grafix are excellent the gameplay lacks in areas. Perhaps in this game the gameplay will be great and even people on low spec machines will be able to play it.....

I might even get to play it at work on my laptop, now thats gotta be good :)

Well only one way to find out, roll on November (fall 2004)

Haya all :)

"ik ben terug :P"

But, I like the Graphics, Much better then before. it's just RCT2 in a TT Jacket. I like that, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 will be 3D, that will ruine the game. This type of game should be like it was, simple with squares etc... So that's why i like this kind of graphics, full of detail, simple, it's all about the gameplay. This will be so playable.. even KIDS can do this.. I hope there will be muti-language versions en it would be nice if you can play it just like TT and TTDLX. Also a Assignment driven option would be nice (just like in RCT)... but, it must be an option.. not the only one.. Further more.... *drool* :D

i like the little railway tracks, and the intergration of all the transport in with the city, but i don't like the designs of the buildings, and the whole graphics in that part. the edges aren't smooth.. but obviously they'll get better. I like it how the corners are actually.. circular instead of so sharp. my dad has all these model railway things so he's always complaining how unrealistic it is when he sees me playing the game. this should shut him up :P

its the 1930's and those look like the correct buildings, so quite easily, we should get much better skyscrapers as the game develops. I mean look how the garden/park looks, it looks better, because its more colourful, instead of using dead and pale colours
