I already said that we're talking about freight here, not passengers.
It's a given that passenger services in the US are crap.
I've got a feeling that Dan Raff has found that US productivity was better even before 1971...I must look that up.

Ironicly had it not been for something I'd done earlier with another freight train, it probably would have made it to Millbrook before the smoke started

They barely do bridges either!
And when they do...
The only time I've ever seen a bridge at a US station!

Gotta have enough clearance to allow them small-todger-compensation locos to grumble by!

Yeah, American crap that along with its sister Class 66 have saved British freight operations. 40% availability of the 56s and 58s wasn't good enough was it? Haha.
Don't forget Class 59 + 67
The 67's were built in Spain not America.

True, but they are based on GM/EMD technology. They were (according to Wikipedia at least) a joint operation between General Motors and Alstom. Much like another Spanish-built class in GB (the 332/333s) was a joint project between Siemens and CAF.

Shame about the 70s

They are quite rare past my house, mainly its all class 66s :(

The noise from a 70 is something else!

Seen 'em occasionally on the Manchester BinLiner through Milnsbridge & Huddersfield, though that's usually a 66. I'm sure they'll settle down soon enough- the 66s relatively trouble-free introduction was the exception rather than the rule, and that probably owed A LOT to the design being a development of the 59 rather than something completely new.
