Competitive multiplayer works very well in my opinion. It's just that the well crowded competitive servers severely limit aircraft, for obvious reasons.

Point taken.

I guess the solution would be to use GRFs that make aircraft way more expensive to run, and competitive for passengers. I wouldn't want to totally limit them as an option, especially given the more situational uses of helicopters and cargo planes.
