Oh dear - well this is a big problem for all steam lines. Hopefully procedures can be improved or something.

The fire was linked to a faulty ash pan, allowing sparks to fly, literally! I drove past the burnt out land today, except it has completely regrown, and the grass that is there now is a bright green, better than the brown scrub grass it has replaced.
However, it appears the farmer is seeking compensation! - Linkage
On Thursday, the railway has opened further, through the Aberglaslyn pass. Photos and an account here.
On an unrelated note, I managed to get in a photo while driving past today!

Bit of a bump, but the railway has been fully open for many months now, and the first season, it seems; has been extremely successful.
I think this video is pretty good at summing up the last bit of the journey into Porthmadog, which was the most expensive part of the railway, being in part laid as a tramway into the street surface!
I rode on the line earlier this year; it has some breathtaking views on the new part of the line of Snowdonia and the Moelwyns.

The Preston Dock Line runs on the road across a swing bridge, similar to this. Nice vid.Born Acorn wrote:Bit of a bump, but the railway has been fully open for many months now, and the first season, it seems; has been extremely successful.
