Oh, what an "OPEN" attitude.

I understand that using yout graphics without permission is discutable, but why do not give him permission?

It's obvious. All my stuff was done to fit in some kind of 'official' OpenTTD32bppwhateverversion, with proper documentation, sources and artists' selected official textures, materials, trees etc. I haven't imagined that someone would ever use my previews, alphabetazetta versions, testers, you name it, for this purpose. To use it in .. I dont know what is it. And I dont want to know and it ends for me there.

Yes, because, I must think about ALL users of tt-forums, and not just the majority. Furthermore, unless the author actually says "that is my copyright being violated", how are we to KNOW. Until there is proof, there is no breaking of the forums rules.

But I don't think thats fair. Thats like saying if its not seen, then its ok.

No, it's not. I am not condoning copyright violation in any way. It is unfair of you to accuse me of that. Please don't do that.

It should'nt be expected for people to visit here frequently to enshore there work isn't violated.

I agree. However, someone has to tell the author, and they must get in contact with forum administration, otherwise we are guessing. Until the author comes forward and says "hey, thats my work", I can't do anything.

It should be taken as standard that until you release something someone else doesn't release it for you, while you are gone.

I agree - and if someone shows the proof, I'll happily shut a thread down thats indeed breaking copyright.

Especially when the author hasn't even stuck a 'preview' tar on the site, so the used graphics are gained from printscreening or draging and dropping images.

Again, I agree completely. We've had instances of this in the past, and it makes me sick.

Theres been a few posts about the roads that he is using. I'm not shore where they are from, but I asume this is a different situation to that of the 32bpp, where the road sprites where released.

As long as the author said its ok for people to use there graphics in there own games, then I don't think there is anything wrong with Sergej_S showing us images of his game with them in.

Well, it could be seen as him advertising it - traditionally, if someone wants to show off new graphics, it's done with default around it, so as to avoid confusion. But, if he was to say (and I believe he has) that they are just in the screenie to look good, and are in no way connected, no problems.

If he allows people to download them from his site though, thats a different story.

I'm going to lock this thread, as these threads ALWAYS end up in a flame war. Sergej_S, you may start a new thread, but you may only post graphics you have the permission of authors to use.

If anyone wants to object to that, please contact myself, or any other members of the global mod team, the OTTD dev/mod team or the administrators (ie orudge and patchman). If anyone sees their work being violated, contact orudge/patchman or a member of the mod team IMMEDIATLY. If you see someones work being violated, notify them so that they can raise their concerns to the appropriate people.
