Thanks for the info.

Well, yes.

Problem is that PBI re-defines one of the used cargo labels (WDPR) w/r to its cargo classes. This cannot be handled properly by the current code layout w/o checking explicitly for "PBI"[*], something I won´t do because it´ll break general usability of the NewShips set.

NewShips 0.48 uses cargo classes to decide on refittability w/r to implicitly given cargoes, and only uses generally available cargo lables in action3 to decide on cargo graphics to be used (if available). This is the accepted standard at the time being. It is also advised by Pikka, so it takes me wonder that PBI itself is coded in such a way that it´ll render this scheme useless.

Anyway, most of PBI´s cargoes should work OK, such as "gravel" and "clay", which are used by FIRS as well. In addition, "fuel oil", "plastic", and "copper" should work, with some subtle anomalies ("copper" has no cargo graphics).

Another shortcoming of this set is the lack in support of other languages rather than English, which IMO looks weird in the menus, where ECS and FIRS cargoes are neatly translated into lots of different languages.

In conclusion, using PBI together with NewShips 0.48 should work, but it´s not "officially" supported.

[*] for "lumber", the label WDPR is used, but PBI redefines it in two ways:

- cargo classes defined for WDPR are "bulk, piece goods", which PBI redefines as "piece goods",
- WDPR is measured in "tonnes", which is redefined in PBI as "crates".

Now, the "Kvaerner" bulker only transports "bulk", hence WDPR had to be added explicitly to its refit mask to allow transportation of WDPR in bulk form (wood chips). This is also done when using PBI, but now "lumber" is transported as bulk in "crates". Somewhat silly.

The more serious case is with the "Astander" piece goods carrier. Although this vessel has cargo graphics for "lumber" (plywood), it cannot transport PBI´s "lumber", simply because here, the WDPR entry in its refit mask is disabling PBI´s "WDPR", because "bulk" is not allowed for the "Astander" as a cargo class. There´s no way around this, rather than have an extra entry for cargo classes or refit mask in case PBI is used, something I won´t include in the set, because of the aforementioned reasons.

Michael,

One thing I've wondered for a few years, and never really mentioned anything is in regards to your original Arctic Set. The C44-9W has different graphics in both < and > directions. the < version lacks the detail of the opposite facing version

I realize there are many other sets out there now, but sometimes you just want to play a simpler original style game :) I don't see the arctic set on your downloads page currently, and was wondering if you were going to fix that before uploading it again?

Cheers,

DBXL v0.9 now includes locomotives as early as 1900 .. 1920. Due to the foundation of the very first German Railways (DRG) only in 1920, there´s no use in introducing much earlier locomotives from the so-called "Länderbahnen" (railways of Prussia, Bavaria, Baden, Saxony, ...), in case those didn´t get inherited by the DRG. Another large problem with expanding the DB Set back into the Länderbahn era would be the provision of the needed coaches and freight waggons (the latter to a lesser degree).

So, this will not happen. The only proper solution for early German trains would be the design of "Länderbahn sets" of the more important German countries, s.a.

There shouldn't be; a custom license can be chosen when uploading to bananas. So there's no problem for Michael using his own license.

one minor problem i have seen in the dbsetxl 0.82, that i have not seen reported anywhere, is the semaphore version of the [OTTD] "one-way path signal" [6th signal, with yellow horizontal plate] has a sprite alignment error (pure white line) in the south direction (|)

and i can only emphasise the request to put DBSetXL 0.82 on BaNaNaS. whether a 0.9 version comes out or not is irrelevant here.

Do you have a screenshot?

I remember this bug having been removed ages ago (and more than one time). Could it be that you´re using the signals from the OTTD "base set" instead of the DBXL´s signals?

now that i research it, it gets really odd. i seem to have two dbsetxlw.grf files, one with md5sum 80a0da3bfcdaa996e10734c1232955d1 and modification date 2007 and one with c5acb6d5536a464fd78871d91840a35f and modification date 2005, and i have no clue where they came from. only the first one shows this issue, but no other (obvious) modification.

Michael, are you planning including this rather nice looking 420 livery?

Haha, just finished some nice fresh Bavarian wheat beer... Olympic S-Bahn would be nice... What about a VT 8.5 with a "Weltmeister 1954" livery? ;-)

Hi Michael,

is there a way to get a beta of the DB set 0.9? It would be great to test the current version.

You wrote that you will finish a version of the new ships but it is not availabe on http://ttdpatch.de/download.html

On the download page the Version of the current ECS Extension is dated on the 14-oct-2010 but the grf is from september. Is there a newer version?

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Cheers Jörg

Not yet, but the release of NewStations v0.5 is not only on my agenda but already being worked on.

Anyway, the very next release would be a new version of MariCo, providing extended functionality for the moles, offering configurable quay tiles, piers, and much more maritime components, including animated dry docks.

Nice! Looking forward to that!
By the way, is there an easy way to get matched red and green lighthouses? Only way I can get them is by building-destroying-building, etc until by luck you get the same style of lighthouse.

Well, IRL they should be different to make the directions more discernible.

IIRC, there´s only one same model and one similar in the set. The others are different.

That looks really great, very nicely done! :D

One small thing though: the flag near the guy on the bench is in a different direction than the other flags.
