Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
Hmm, btw, what would that special palet be? And would it be possible to just do every graphic for *.grf's in 32? or is that outta the question or just not practical? Hmm, maybe one of these days after I get better at spriting for TTD, maybe I'll overhaul openTTD with 32bit graphics : )athanasios wrote:You understood well.

Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
You don't need a special palette for 32 bpp graphics. But 32 bpp graphics neds a GRF file with 8 bpp graphics (that uses a TTD palette). This GRF file can be a default TTD GRF or a new GRF. If You want a new industries set, you need first draw 8 bpp graphics and code it in a GRF file with the NFO codeNekoMaster wrote:Hmm, btw, what would that special palet be? The most difficult part, is coding the NFO file.
This set will be very interesting!
Sorry if my english is too poor, I want learn it, but it isn't too easy.

Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
Also remember 32bpp graphics work ONLY in OpenTTD. They don't work in TTDPatch at all. So 8bpp graphics are an absolute requirement, and they work fine in both places. I recommend you stick with that. It's also been noted that combining 32bpp and 8bpp graphic-sets in the same game looks hideous, so unless you plan to redraw all the train, buildings and everything else in 32bpp, your efforts will be somewhat wasted.

sure, just so long as ppl try making 32bpp gfxkrtaylor wrote:Also remember 32bpp graphics work ONLY in OpenTTD. They don't work in TTDPatch at all. Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
I guess it depends on how much you personally care about the 32bpp project for OpenTTD. It has nothing to do with the Japan Set at the moment. It is also (probably) much more work to make decent 32bpp sprites and is technically done in a different way. Not because of the colors but because graphics in the 32bpp replacement project are supposed to be much more detailed. But if you decide that is what you want to try, I don't think your work would be wasted because the sprites could be reduced to 8bpp afterwards. If I remember correctly, there are examples of that in the 8bpp replacement project that look really good. I am sure there are people around who could tell you more.

Sure, well, I was thinking of making 8bit couter parts for ppl who are on TTDpatch or dont feel like using 32bit (wouldnt know why : P )dandan wrote:I guess it depends on how much you personally care about the 32bpp project for OpenTTD. Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
Then, as you are not yet an experienced pixel-artist, it'd be best to start by drawing the 8bpp ones first. By the time you've done them all, you will be experienced and ready to take on their 32bpp conversion.

Well, heres another test gfx. Not the great est and its scale is sh** so it probably wouldnt work

Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
You're right that the scale is no good. But as a test specimen, it's very good. I can see you are coming along well concerning the perspective and angles.
In your next pass, take a look at the shading, and you can add depth via some pixel randomization.

Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
Read my tutorial pages about sprite sizes, lighting and dimensions. (Link in sig)
Then get a TTD palette somewhere and start using some more colors
You seem to understand isometric pretty well, so that shoudn't be a problem.
EDIT: And taking a look at other people's work could help a lot too

Although Purno's tutorials in the / and \ views are a pixel too low on his tutorials.
Re: JAPAN SET INDUSTRIES!!!
It's a good start though, since it was the same start I made. The tutorials age of years ago.

Any possibility for a skilled artist to fix the tutorials and the pallette?

Unfortunately I'm rather lazy updating anything on my tutorials. I know, stupid me. They're too old already. They could really use revision.

Trying to update Purno's Drawing Tutorials. I'm looking for the image which got an overview of all sprite sizes for trains in several lengths including close coupling etc. Can't find it, can onyone link me to it?

Thanks, but I remember a more expanded version. I guess this one will do either anyways
I'm just doing a very quick update, not gonna do a massive remake ATM.
