I could host, I have a machine I could dedicate to it, and a usually reliable DSL connection.

So anyway James, are you going to prepare a new game?

How are you gonna enforce the operating rights limits?

Sorry. I just thought it would be better to enforce it.

Any particular reason the MiniIN was being used for this? I'd like to try and get this going, but would rather pick a nightly for stabilities sake.

1. The company code does really have to be three letters.
2. I don't think you'll be considered much without the network and fleet details.

And the fact that we havent even got a new game going yet.

And NCarlson, the MiniIn was used because it meant that we could share each others tracks should our franchises cross at any point which was the case in a few areas

Indeed, Griff speaks the truth :) If someone can build us all a custom version, that has say PBS, Timetables, Diagonal Crossings and Subsidiaries, without it having the multiplayer bugs of MiniIN then that will wrok perfectly i hope.

NCarlson, thanks for the offer of hosting it, once we have decided what were going to do, then we can get on and do it :P

Jonty, dont worry about what people have said, the problems we were having were down to MiniIN problems, not you

Well, the original franchise game was good fun indeed, although it's a shame the server deteriorated due to the MiniIN desync problems. Ameecher, Lewis, John, weirdy and I played our own game based upon the franchise idea with the latest nightly, and that was rather good fun too. I have some ideas for another similar game in the next little while, which anyone is free to join in with, based upon what we've learned from past couple of games.

This isn't intended to "rival" your "official" game in any way, we liked your idea and decided to play our own game based upon it. :)

I'd love to get in on either game, and could host either.

Hosting for my game is taken care of, seeing as I own a web host. ;) I'd also be happy to host the "official" game as it were, if the two don't end up integrated (which would be nice).

Our unofficial game will likely be discussed on IRC at some point this weekend.

Well, sorry to revive something this old, but I thought it was better than a new topic in the end. Basically, it's been a couple of years, cargo destinations seem to be finally coming along, and theres new work on infrastructure sharing, so is anyone interested in trying to get this kind of game going?

If anybody is, I'd suggest we do it sooner than later so we keep momentum up, my feeling is better to get it going as we can without the patches than to wait around for things to get in trunk, but what do other think? I'm still able to host if need be, but I only have a residential DSL connection that has to be used for other things.

Well, Jonty has made a IS2 server. Not sure if it has got anything to do with this, though.

What's the point of this kind of game, anyways? Is there a difference from this and normal multiplayer?

Not terribly different except that the goal is to create something more realistic and play a passenger focussed game. Call it an RP server in MMORPG terms.
