I'm up for some coding. A Melbourne/VR set would be ace!

Ok, I will include many V/Line diesel locomotives, as well as a few fiction ones for the future. Problem is my first train starts in 1924, leaving user out for 3 years...

I'll post a table of all stats of veichles shortly.

I'll need the stats for the Sprinter and VLocity trains, as well as all the Melbourne Suburban trains. Thanks to (the old) Railpage Australia for all the stats of the VicRail and V/Line locos.

Did Victoria not have railway before 1924? That seems odd...

You have a point there, but I don't know anything about steamers, so I've stuck to Diesels and Electrics.

Any steamers are welcome, but I'll need stats.

I'd start doing some research then. Any good set is not made in a day, nor is it made with no solid backing.

Sydney Terminal has an ARHS bookstore.

Their website is http://www.arhsnsw.com.au. Yes, it's a NSW bookstore, and they do have an online store. They are a part of Australian Rail Heritage, and publish a number of magazines you may be interested in. "Railway Digest" has fascinating articles and news relevant to railways all over Australia. They also publish "Australian Railway History", another, cheaper magazine with articles from all over Australia about random facts and things from history.

Their online store has books about railways everywhere. Yes, their focus is NSW, but they also have some Victorian stuff, as I saw when browsing the store itself a week ago.

A lot of their books are generally great reads and good for a bookshelf if you are interested in history of railways. I'm always squirriling my pennies away for a new book from there, they have some fantastic stuff.

If nothing else, check the website out, do a wikipedia search, a google search. Check out the library. The information is out there, and depending on how serious you are about your hobby, you can get it.

Good luck!

I have most of the specs for the train I intend to use. They cover a wide span of service. I am starting up a thread on my own forum here for any ideas for future trains.

http://z7.invisionfree.com/The_Met_Foru ... owtopic=13

Feel free to list any ideas.

Firstly, as I have to log in to read the thread, I'm unlikely to register and make an account for it.

Secondly, may I humbly suggest you do all dev work here on tt-forums? Mostly so everyone can follow progress easily, but also to aid you in your sprite drawing, and debugging of code...

I spent some time recently in Melbourne, so I thought I'd try to make an effort to start this for you.

Please don't be too harsh, this is my first time trying to draw vehicles.

Not bad. Not bad at all. Just add some extra texture, and finish the windows. Great start!

For a first try, those are pretty damned awesome. Hell, those would look fine in any set.

I'm sure the artists may have some pointers for you, but I just clap my hands. Bravo, excellent!

You saw Tait's while you were in Melbourne?

Great start. If you can get them to a stage where they're ready to go into a GRF, I'll get them coded up in no time. :)

Forgot to mention, it's good to see that the *hardest* sprites are done well. IMO, the horizontal and vertical sprites are easier to draw. Judging from the diagonals, we're in for a treat :)).

Are the ends of the carraiges meant to be wider than the middle?

No. But the front I had to make 1 pixel higher for the full width, because from what I've seen the Tait cars have a full width lightbox that buffers a clerestory roof across the cab end. So I'm guessing what you're seeing is the 'reverse 'end' looking wider, when it is actually shorter. 8)

Thanks for the support guys. I've got Purno's guide to thank, they were tricky but I had to give it a go :)

Dev|ant: Yes, I saw a Tait in Melbourne, at the rail museum. :P

Anyhow, Due to the fact that I have very limited time on my hands, I'll stick to the original Melbourne EMU's. Personally, I'd run it alongside the NSW set, if they could be compatible together. I'm not sure about the technicalities in TTDP. So I'll go with what you advise.

This is a bit of a newbie thing to be saying, but I can't seem to get the horizontal and vertical views looking in scale compared to the diagonal views on the Tait cars.

Would it be possible for Purno, or somebody with train graphic experience to have a go at getting the scale correct.

I may have the sizes right, but it just doesn't look in scale. :?
