Did you catch the number of the 81? I recently saw an 81 (8112) down in Port Kembla, tasked with shunting duties. I wasn't aware it had headed north? Hopefully it will be out and about when I'm there!

Was looking forward to getting a photo of an 81 in NR livery, but it was miles between stations on the Port Kembla branch...

Oh, so having mainlines like that is bad? :shock: Just Britain then. Mind you we have steel and concrete sleepers. They can't rot away :P Great photos Raichase.

I have recently transferred my photos of 3112 at Central and my Vist to Central Station from fotopic to Flickr! So, for those of you who have not seen them, and even for those of you that have, feel free to drop by for a look.

Also brought across are my photos from the Railpage Australia Group's trip to the Illawarra

All three photosets are much improved, simply due to the hosting not making the shots look fuzzy D:

I was coming home from uni when that mixed freight of 81 (PacNat) and 48 with the cargill tankers and hoppers came though warabrook. Then saw it again as it stopped just before entering Port Waratah. I was at Sandgate for about 15 minutes but all i saw was 3 empty coalies.
Very nice shots BTW. Isnt the rail at Newcastle terminus in great condition!

You must have seen my Hunter Railcar wander through then! Check my LJ, that has all the times I was at places on it :)).

Thankyou for the shots. Next visit, I plan to do over two days, so I can get out earlier, and spend more time on the line - stop off at Sandgate for starters, and perhaps more time past Maitland, although that halves my traffic D:

I did like that consist though, never seen tank cars like that on the move (cargill tankers? Never 'erd of 'em), and I was happy to see a 48 or two (although, I have yet to get the flawless shot I want of one).

By Cargill tankers i meant NTOF tankers (as you have in your site). Cargill is just a agricultural service provider :) . http://www.nswrollingstock.com/NTOF.htm

Great pics Rai, but....

1. I can't find 'Beresford' on any Cityrail maps, only BeresFIELD, where's Beresford?

2. The album title says the pics were taken on the 3rd July 2007 :P

Once again a very enjoyable album, thanks for sharing, I too will miss the 620/720's when they're gone (despite never having laid eyes on one :P ), I hope one goes to a museum and perhaps gets a fresh coat of paint!

What kind of camera are you using?

I hope to get out to Moss Vale one weekend (the next few are taken up though). Would be kind of an adventure as i have never been out that way, hehe. Those photos make me want to go out there more and more!

The description of This Set explains why there are so few photos. I took quite a few, mostly of sparks, and those were the only ones of interest that were of decent quality.

Worst bit is? When I got home, in the distance was blue sky. By 3pm, the whole sky was clear and fabulous. Next time I'm just going to find a cafe to hole up in until the weather clears. Seriously, the rain I was in, seemed like it would be around for a week.

Carrying my camera around with me more and more, I am going to make some "generic" collections for when I spend a day or an hour out trackside, and only get a couple of worthwhile shots.

Before I go ahead and upload my latest batch of photos (this one includes some favorites, one of which will not be seen until the photo competition), I've gone ahead and done the groundwork to organise my photos, with some basic information about each loco type.

So no new photos this link, and there will be some overlaps, but it's designed to make my photos a good reference. If I am blathering on about a 90 Class, you can just pop over and click on "Diesels of NSW" then open up the set of photos on the 90 Class, rather than having to ask me which trips I saw 90 Class, and check each separate album set.

Man you'd hate it in the UK Rai, I don't know of any train with reversible seating. What's wrong with going backwards anyway?

The Blackpool trams have reversible seating :P but other than that there aren't any, I suspect that a seat that can move wouldn't meet crash regulations.

It's stupid. At least on the country trains, the Xplorer and the XPT, the seats are rotated by staff at the end of each trip, so you are always going the right way.

I sometimes like going backwards, it's also safer apparently in an accident which is reputedly why RAF planes have the seats facing backwards (obviously not for the pilots :P). Not sure how true that is though.
