one of the best networks ive seen!!!

even tough i prefeer longer trains............

Thinks me migth join this coop-thingy
Thx :P

The main reason for using these short trains (3 tiles long) is that the trains can travel with fullspeed through our curves (also at least 3 tiles). Trains dont have to re-accelerate and no jams can occur through a curve.
Thats it.
The next game will be a TGV-type-game (passenger transport, tgv like looking trains), actually it hasn't bee discussed, but i think trains will be longer in this game-type, because of the realism :)
You can join the irc channel and the sandbox server and have a look at the games going on :)

Trains are way to good in this game. No what could be cool was only using trucks and no trains now that would be a challenge. :P

Not really...you would just make less money, but you wouldn't be poor. Everything is so easy on a random map, but there are hard scenarios around, that you would definitely need trains in order to survive.

My Fjords scenario encourages road vehicles, ships and planes. You can use trains, but it's easier to get pas the mountians by sea, air or on the roads (and the odd tunnel) that already exist.

Interesting.
If you have troubles with hosting/playing a game of that size in the future I'd advise longer trains. Thus you need less, and thus you have less pathfinding.
As to the reason for short trains being to not slow down on corners: You shouldn't have much trouble with that setup for longer trains No particular sharp points at all. On my present game I have 140+ trains on a 256*512 map and a very-cramped network. No clogs/jams at all (most trains are length 10 but many are 20).

Anyhow, for this game I particularly like the trains for the World Domination Airport. Plus the 1mil a year airplanes. ;)
