FAQ Bull****

I remember when TTD first came out it was really hard to get a hold of, I got it for Christmas and didn't see it in the shops at all for a year or so after that (I thought I was special
) Then last year I bought it again, thinking it was the Windows version, they still have bazillions of them in the shops now. I finally decided to download the Windows version, I'm not too into downloading stuff you can still buy, but considering I owned 2 copies of the DOS version it didn't bother me. I'd still be happy to play the DOS version if I could, but I can't so I won't.

Nothing, it's just Windows NT/2000/XP users can't use it. I personally use the DOS version instead of the Windows version. I still have sound effects and high quality music (thanks to Windows emulating an MPU-401 device), and I find it (the game) a lot smoother than the Windows version.G-Klav wrote:Owen, what's wrong with the DOS version?
TTDLX have i bought in Trier - Germany in te summer of 1996 .. So i have a box with german language(how disgusting
) but the game is in english and i love it.. in 1995 a classmate of me introduces me to TT .. i loved it from the started.. now my playstyle is being evolved to.. hmm suffiecient as possible... (like the borg
) but there are still things to .. uhm.. learn..

Wow... 8 years and still going strong? That's good for any game. But has the Creator (Chris Sawyer... jus' paying my respects) ever played his own game - the finished version? With the Creator's Human Incarnate's (a.k.a. Patchman) patch?
Oh boy. I sound like a member of the God Squad.

What is MPU-401 device? I have integrated sound card so i have to use windows version to play TTD and patch with sounds. I've also played TTD dos version on older computer, and under dos version, music is a little better than windows.

An MPU-401 device physically is a MIDI port, but some Windows sound drivers (WDM drivers mainly, I think) emulate one so older DOS programs can play MIDI music. If you're using the Windows version of TTD, you don't need to worry about this. The General MIDI option is the highest quality though.troopper5 wrote:What is MPU-401 device? I disagree totally.Arathorn wrote:I think they don't like it because the patch shows that they forgot so many things in the original game.
When the original version was released, computers were just able to play the game. When building heavy tracks systems, the game was slowing down, as computer was unable to compute more thing.
This game is 10 years old. At this time, a lot of things we can find now in many games was not existing (config files, default limitations changes, etc.) so we can't say they forgot it or were unable to do it, this was not existing at all in any game.
And all the games developed at this time were for MSDOS or for Windows, never to twice. Windows 2000/XP hardware lock that cause TTDLX not running in these OS was only existing on Windows NT 4.0 that wad not AT ALL an OS for playing use. Half-Lafe that is more recent was unable to be used on Windows NT 4.0 (and Windows 2K/Windows XP) before the 1013 patch.
So, I disagree, they didn't forget anything, they just released a very good game, but it is 10 years old. That's all.
Jup we've got a topic digger on our hands here...
