It is "slunted" in real life - not very much, but it's there.

There will be three generations of tankers in the updated set, and I'll probably allow the second generation to carry milk too. Eventually, HOVS will include milk tankers to carry it by road in modern times, which is more realistic.
Hi Pikkabird,
I really like your train set, being able to get new vehicles until the end really gives it an edge, let aside all the rest (sounds etc). It looks great, it sounds great and it plays great. That must have cost you a lot of work.
However, it would be even nicer if the maglev could transport valuables as well, and had a slightly shorter loading time. Do you think we have any chance of getting it? Or, how can I code that in the .nfo? Just for personal use of course.
Cheers

I'm going to completely rethink the monorail/maglev for the next version of the set. I'm not really happy with the way the current one plays, or looks next to the other locos (it's really just a cut-and-paste of Dan's maglev from the NARS).
In the meantime, if you add the line
1 * 1 00 00 01 01 56 1D 04 04 00 00
to the bottom of the current nfo, It will allow the mail maglev to be refitted to valuables (albeit only 15 bags per car).
Thanks, it works like a charm. Looking forward to the new release.
I added yet another line
2951 * 7 00 00 01 01 56 14 28
and now it carries 40 mail or 20 valuables. Just got lucky.
Cheers,
Lollus
I've gotten the MagLev trains and have hit a small snag... there are no passenger cars for the MagLev train...
Is it supposed to be like this?
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
I added another maglev to the train and it just adds it as another engine...
so now i have a double-headed train, but it still carries no passengers...

It doesn't seem to be working... or maybe I'm doing it wrong...

To add passenger capacity, you've gotta add more engine units right, because you can't purchase passenger coaches... so this means that to add capacity you've gotta shell out for a whole extra engine, which at my current game state costs 228 000 Euro... instead of +- 10 000 for a passenger coach...
that's steep guys... seriously...

Not really, when you consider how expensive the MagLev systems will eventually be should they be implemented. I think this also is to discourage people from a complete overhaul of their tracks, since the railway locos are developed right up til 2040 and are more exciting.
OTOH, Pikka's announced he doesn't like his current setup and is looking to develop it in the next release.
A passenger train costs almost 2 MILLION bucks, whereas any other train on the MagLev system is rarely over 500 000

Well, Pikka's set has been known to change the whole approach a player makes. It's not like with the bog-standard sets where the most expensive train costs 15000 and 3000 a year to run. If I played with those now, I'd p*** all over it, to be honest.
Pikka's set is much more challenging methinks. And the reason you state is the reason why I stick with the railways - especially that awesome futuristic AL10 from Brush - good speculation .
Considering the amazing speeds and capacities that these trains have... it works out to be worth the expenditure...
PS, Dave, your avatar, it looks a helluva lot like Thermoman... is it him?

It's Ardal O'Hanlan, the actor who played Thermoman in My Hero, yes. But in my avatar, he's Father Dougal Maguire in the Catholic sitcom Father Ted. [/ot]
