Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
A lot of stations really close to being screenshot-worthy! Here's Stafford:
and an update on the map. Feel free to request an area - it'll make me finish it!
Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
I'd be rather interested in seeing the Birmingham area, looks (mostly) finished from the map that you showed, and I know that area is absolute hell with track in places.

Coming up!
A train from Edinburgh leaves for London, a CrossCountry service approaches before reversing to Bristol Temple Meads and a Turbostar departs for Rugeley Trent Valley. Somehow managed to catch this without a Cross City service in the picture even though they are plentiful! Moor Street - not quite finished in terms of trains or surrounding area.
Snow Hill - much the same as Moor Street. Another glimpse of the West Midlands Metro to Wolverhampton.
Birmingham New Street. Not 100% finished but fairly close. Working out all the platform allocations was a nightmare! Couldn't get quite as detailed on the shopping areas as I would have liked but managed to capture the general idea - including the full tramway to Wolverhampton.

Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
I'm back playing OTTD because, you know, there's not much else to do!
I've started a map of South West UK - where I used to live. Progress is slow but I have mapped out the location of quite a few more towns with signs. If you want to see anywhere let me know!

On another note, some of these Welsh routes seem a scheduling nightmare. In my little to no knowledge of these types of thing, why Fishguard Harbour to Man Pic?! Also Maesteg to Cheltenham Spa! Going to crush some of my routes thanks to my lack of timetabling.

I know it’s 18 months late but I’ve parked my motor on that car park below the railway on the left! My mate had his nicked off that car park! But your depiction has something the original doesn’t! Lines! And tarmac!SwissFan91 wrote: 29 Oct 2018 22:47.

I don't normally like posting screenshots of areas until they are "finished". However, here's the track in two of the more complicated areas, Bristol and Cardiff:

Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
I have picked up this game again and I have embarked on perhaps my most ridiculous project to date:
Switzerland and Italy Heightmap
8k x 8k map
JGR Patchpack
More GRFs than my game can handle
It's a battle to see if I can finish the map before my old laptop overheats. Here are some screenshots of progress so far - I thought I took 800x600 screenshots to display in-line but apparently it look 1366x768 anyway. No eyecandy has really been placed so it's more of a route map with trains at the moment.
The further north I have laid tracks is Basel, and south is Lugano. Some areas are taking shape better than others. The mountains and valleys help with town placement while the lowland areas are proving more challenging. I didn't spend the time figuring out the 'new' town autoplacement feature but perhaps I should have...

Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
It's good to be back!
I have found that I have the motivation to create lots of routes but not actually add the eyecandy to any one place to bring it up to screenshot standard! So with that in mind here is another map: Progress on track building is good; I have touched the 'north' of the map above Basel/Mulhouse and, in fact, most of Basel is finished in terms of track. The last major stumbling block is Zurich and, as most routes seem to run through there, I think I will have an explosion of new trains & routes I can finally create when Zurich is finished.
I also found some very old screenshots from one of my first ever Switzerland games (on maybe a 1k map) so I might eventually post some side by side comparisons.
Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
In my opinion you are using too many tracks, try to optimize train traffic, the tab in the infrastructure fee options will help you with that

Re: SwissFan91's European Screenshots
OK some realistic screenshots to show! I'm quite proud of these, not only because of the way they look but also given they are part of such a huge map - not just lots of eyecandy on a 128x128 random map created for a screenshot competition like I have done before. The screenshots are quite big and zoomed out but will hopefully allow you to zoom in to the default zoom level.
Here we have the Saastal valley in Winter and Summer. Hopefully there might even be someone who has been here and will recognise the ski area - the lift networks are mostly accurate in their directions, although the pistes are more a representation of reality. In the end I went with diagonal, less realistic looking lifts rather than trying to make them in straight lines, which would have broken the layout of the map somewhat. I had to add all the peaks in manually as the highest points of the map did not pull through from the heightmap very well.
Finding enough snow-aware houses in my current NewGRF setup has also been a bit challenging, as you might see here and in future screenshots. Lots of the same houses in the mountains!
Just for fun, I found some very old Swiss screenshots from many laptops ago so I thought I might share some side by side. Hopefully it will be obvious which is which going forward! Unfortunately the old Swiss map was a lot smaller and North was rotated differently so they don't quite match.
