Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Looks absolutely fantastic! I was thinking of picking up OpenTTD again and I think I just might!

Thank you for your kind comment!
Here are some big city areas to look at.

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Here is Kirkley in 1930. The farm just to the north of the station is the starting point of some of the exports from Oulton Harbour. Off to a factory just north of Oulton, then the goods are taken by another train down to the harbour.
Some of the smaller villages have really benefitted from their rail links and are growing quite quickly.
Another small ferry link off the east coast. The train from Walton Ferry connects to the east coast mainline at Burnthill

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
More from Waveney Island! I've been concentrating on rural branchlines recently. Here, I've connected some local communtites in the neglected south-west region to the network.
First, the main city at the end of the south west mainline, Hollowsgrove,
..and here are two stations on the branch lines that connect to the south-west towns and villages to Hollowsgrove.
Might do some surburban shots next if you like as they are growing fast now.

photo plus newgrf coding doesn't look good.
But you pictures rock! could you post the current savegame up?

Something goes here, hell if I know.
Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
You refering to those stations? Yeah, the grf came with the warning they might not look good in an 8 bpp game.....but I quite like the rural one!
Thought I'd try them anyway.
Thank you for the comment. I can post my savegame. But I don't play like most people....I'm not about effciency or making lots of money. I like to play around a lot. I like to see how complicated I can make the transport of goods or sometimes I like to see if I can make things look good. You'll find a lot of things wrong in the save game....and many many trains running at a loss! So please feel free to critise my game amongst yourselves but you don't need to tell me!
You need the cargodist binary build numbered g5d19369d (think thats still the latest binary).
I should point out the basis for the scenario is not my own work but the work of the person who made the Peurto Rico heightmap.
oh, and you'll need a whole host of new GRF's....some of which you have to go digging deep for.

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
A bit of a suggestion here: it looks like you can easily clear the area behind your current station and move the entire station facility about 3 tiles back without any major rating penalty. If you can do that, try laying out your approaches as seen in the following screenshot:Gord wrote: So the first screenshot is the first station built in Tetditch, Tetditch Stanhead Street, the suburban east coast lines leave here and hundreds of commuters end up here. Always a bit of a bottle neck to the station but city growth allows little room for expansion.
Note how the use of 2 entry PBS signals, one for each route (I am using right-hand running per North American practice here) and the pairs of crossover tracks allow ready access from either line, with minimal speed penalties. As an aside, I also schedule maintenance stops on all train orders, so that my trains don't take off for servicing in the middle of loading, creating even more congestion. FWIW...

The scenery and the viaduct bridge above the cut are the type of little details that make this shot stand out from most... nice job.Badger wrote:"Tetditch Transport, 23rd Feb 1942.png" is just a fantastic pic![]()

Thanks for the comments, the Tetditch game went to the recycle bin a long time ago though! That was a good game though...I enjoyed that one a lot.

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Great screenshots, just one comment I personal would think about putting a tram/bus/underground service in those large cities. Well done on the game, keep it up.

I not an boring person, I just get excited over boring things.
Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Yeah, inner city transport is something i'd like to put into the game, (although Oulton has a tram link between the city stations and the docks). Now all my towns are connected, it could be my next project.
As well as upgrading vehicles and infrastructure, there's still plent to do in the game for the future years. Inner city links (as mentioned), buidling railfrieght terminals to make the freight network more effcient. Introduce airports and flights out of the island. Try to get even more frieght moving. And by the time i get to the late 1950's....start building a motorway network.
Busy busy busy.....

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Here is my British trains in the US game again.
I've followed Amtrak routes, given the trains the Amtrak names...but used British trains. Why British trains and not American ones? Because I like to imagine how different things could be applied to real life scenarios. Imagine a bunch of Pacers lined up for locals in Chicago Union or some Networkers loading up in New York Grand Central. Appalling behaviour I know but what yer gonna do?
I'm still tempted to try my NA trains in the UK game though.
Anyway, so far, I've only put on some long distance trains. I intend on putting local services on when I've finished.
First of all, Boston. Here is you can see Boston South. Many routes start here, you can see the Pendeli...ahem...Acela Express arriving on the lower platforms. The upper platforms are intended for services to Albany, Toronto, Chicago and points west.
Next is Boston North, not yet connected to Boston South...although I don't think that they actually are directly connected in real life.
And finally, on the other side of the country, we see the Californian Zephyr calling in at Colfax, California on a Chicago to Oakland service.
Once I've added the real life routes, plus some abandoned routes such as the National Limited. I'll put on the services that I think the US should have. Particularly around the area where I lived for 2 years. (Columbus, Ohio)
Edit: Um yeah, I've used Uk roads too....sorry!

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Here are 3 more from my fictional US game.
First up is Albany. This is served by 158's and 220's. 220's from here run from Boston South to Buffalo International via Syracuse and Rochester. 158's will take you to New York Grand Central and north to places in the north end of New York state. There is also a tramlink to Troy International station where you can catch class 393's to New York, Montreal and Toronto
Next is Newark and New Brunswick in New Jersey. Class 390's stop here, running from Boston South to Washington Union via Providence, New York Penn, Philadelphia North and Baltimore. New Jersey local services also stop here. (3rd Rail trains)
Finally Trenton, the terminus of local services running in New Jersey. It's also a stop for the 390's on the Boston to Washington route.

Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
In that last shot I would personally rearrange the track work slightly to avoid the horrible tracks running bridge supports graphical bug. It looks possible without having to relocate anything other than a couple of signals.
Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Yeah, it wold make it better, don't think the concrete bridge with it's larger span would work. I do have plenty of room there to rearrange the track work though.
I don't like bridges running over signals either, it bugs me when the top of them pokes through!
Thanks for spotting that anyway...I do like to get it looking as perfect as possible!

Dumb question as I've not been paying attention, where does one find 3rd rail tracks?

Pikka drew a new set of rail sprites to match the smaller scale of UKRS2. Use these instead of NuTracks because well, NuTracks is hideous.Badger wrote:Dumb question as I've not been paying attention, where does one find 3rd rail tracks?
Re: Gord's Passenger Destinations (OTTD)
Back with my semi-Fictional US game.
Have 3 companies so far.
Amtrak: Run all intercity services across the whole country, plus a few connecting services.
Midwest Rail: Compete with Amtrak for services out of Chicago. Connections to cities across the midwest and the great lakes region.
Lower Lakes Trains: Run local services connecting cities in Michigan, Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Also run local commuter servies in Detroit MI, Cleveland OH, Columbus OH and Cincinnati OH. Also run a few services to cities a bit further afield such as Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Charleston WV. Also a couple of very localised routes out of Dayton OH, and Mansfield OH.
First up is Cleveland. Cleveland has two stations. The northern station is Cleveland Lakefront and owned by Amtrak. All Amtrak services serve Cleveland in this station. Lower Lakes Trains run a connection to Cleveland's other station, Cleveland Tower Centre. Cleveland Tower Centre Station is owned by Lower Lakes Trains with connections to Toledo OH, Buffalo NY, Pittsburgh PA, Mansfield, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati, OH and Charleston WV via Athens OH. Midwest Rail also run a fast intercity to Chicago from here.
Next up, slightly south of Cleveland is Mansfield OH. From here the Cincinnati-Cleveland vis Columbus service stops (run by Lower Lakes Trains). Lower Lakes also run local services to Cleveland and Bucyrus OH, (a local to Cleveland waits in platform 3 as the one to Bucyrus leaves platform 4...these services might get merged later on). Midwest Rail's Chicago-Pittsburgh service also calls here, that is the Voyager you can see in platform 2. Amtrak's Broadway Limited also stops here.
Finally, at the other end of Ohio, is Athens. Leaving platform 1 you can see the Lower Lakes local service to Columbus OH. This is also a stop on the Lower Lakes service from Cleveland to Charleston WV. Amtrak's Shenandoah (Washington-Cincninnati intercity) also calls here.
