No, we have a different one for that; "Coals to Newcastle" ... there
used to be lots of coal mines near Newcastle ... but I've never heard of
"Pouring oil onto troubled waters".
Neither have I.....
But would 'Selling snow to the Eskimos' be the same?

Or 'A cat in hells chance'?

The reason the convention of posting at the bottom exists is that you
can quickly scan the previous post as you scroll down, which refreshes
your memory.
Yeah but you should also clip put anything that you are NOT replying to.
This helps to keep the NG to a normal size.

Leaving things like other peoples sigs is a waste IMO.

We only do English now, but we are examined in English and English
Literature.
We did it all under the general umberella but we were examined as two
different exams. (We were all very confused about this as we wern't told
anything about it!)
Exam results for the two Dec 1999 were
Eng.Lang: 84%
Eng.Lit.: 80%
I was quite pleased with them.
What does that work out as?
'C's?
We have nine thirty-five minute lessons a day. During the week we have six
lessons of English. That's three hours thirty minutes of English lessons a
week.
Wow...Now thats a waste.......what can you possibly learn in 35 mins?
most of that would be used as refresh on the last lesson....

We would have 4 lessons in a day. slip two lessons in before lunch and 2
after..

One English and one Maths each day and all the rest of the subjects patched
in wherever.
That was a good setup......You could start a project, and without much of a
problem, get it finished in the same lesson......

Do you have 2 lessons pushed together as a double?

BTW can you lot drop your games/PE for a normal subject?
Thats what I did my entire secondry school time.

Sean Casey - originally Sean. I think he has been posting here for some

Hehe :) That's me. I noticed most people were posting with second names so I
did.

Living up in the cold, damp, mountainous highlands, with nothing but the PC
and the internet connection for entertainment I spend the long winter nights
playing TTDlx. Well, slight exaggeration there- I am nearly 16 and I only
live up in Elgin but I feel like the only one who plays TT up here. Everyone
who used to play it moved on to Quake and stuff like that.

I used to post to here *ages* ago. Quite literally. Before you, Eddie, and
others, but it got boring when we had nothing to discuss so I left.

Right, I don't normally say as much as that, and this post has really tired
me out, so I'm off to tuck into some haggis (ooo-er, that doesn't look to
great from a
distance, eh?) and maybe play my bagpipes later ;)

PS. Paul- you were going on about k/fs. I was merely being sarcastic about
OE.
Sorry, it was probaly a mis-understanding.

It's like public shaming. Sticking him in the gallows for what
is going on. There are more people on Usenet who post like this.
Are you going to hunt them all down? I agree, it would be nice if
everyone posted perfectly with no spelling mistakes, but as I
said, we are human, and *that's* not going to happen, and is
wishful thinking. And also hypocritical.
It would be unfair and hypocritical for me to criticise someone who
occasionally made spelling or grammatical errors through carelessness or
not knowing better, since we all do that from time to time. But Paul,
and many others, make no attempts to make their posts legible.

I find his posts difficult to read, despite the fact that they are
usually short. He does make valid points, so I would *like* to be able
to read them fine, but mostly I just skip over them atm.
And also the easiest way to get flamed ;-) Not by me, but by

That's from a similar basic idea; the "full" idiom refers to "Someone
who could sell snow/fridges to eskimos" ... ie, a good salesman, or
someone with the gift of the gab (or should that be gob?). Other people
might be good enough to sell sand to the Arabs ... it's all a matter of
choice.
Or 'A cat in hells chance'?
That means "no chance at all" ... which is odd, because my cat *loves*
being in the warm, and hell is reputedly quite warm, so cats should get
on fine there!
