32bpp Interface?

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

TTF_FONTS: I vote for non-GRF fonts too. We should use system fonts (this will make UTF8 support MORE MORE easier to do). Plus we should have some extra .ttf distributed with OTTD - which will store the "icons" of train,bus,ship,plane(,tram,underground,...;),some arrows, etc.) -> at now these symbols are written in labels of stations.

INTERFACE: I really love the OLD OTTD interface, 'cause it is {str_repeat("very",10)} simple :) And I like sharp corners too.
We are making 32bpp interface which looks SIMILIAR to current. Not new interface with object at same position. I am for "32bppeation" of current dialogs - with "smell" of original OTTD.

that layout is great!

it has the feel of the old TTD yet is a lot nicer to look at.

but I also like the 'modern' icons were made by Jens

those icons on joed's layout would look fantastic...

Those modern Icons are not very clear. I don't know what the "warehouse" icon is next to the subsidies button

I think it's the Cities Button. But where is the other buttons?

No not that one the one on the other side. Although the town one isn't very clear either.

well, I think it the Station Button. If you don't know what is it, you should right-click on it (I mean, in the game).

I suggested this before... ( http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=19924 ) as gpsoft made an utf8 patch.. however he insisted on using grf fonts due to a minor possibility of mismatched fonts on different systems, as well as have to make a whole new system.

To be honest, he is lazy... I suggested to pack a custom TTF font with the game to prevent any font mismatches, as well as giving a direct link to SDL functions which allow TTF font usage on ANY system.
Siggy not gonna work unless someone allows javascripting...

About the in-game menu buttons... I think these are too blurry and I can recognize some of them only because I remember TT graphic layout.

Also, many of people won't stand just rescaling original graphics, so things are getting messy. Do the 'GPL Guardians' like rescaled, original buttons? (bit sarcastic, sorry, but I don't like such a behaviors)

Personally, I prefer MR X's main menu, all other windows by Joed... Besides the menu buttons, which must be done completly from scratch. These would look much better, anyway...

I was just playing around with some ideas for the icons, so I thought I would modify one of those mockup windows i did earlier to try and match the style. Here is the result - a bit experimental. Better or worse than before?

I kind of prefer flat buttons over the gradient ones... I just don't really like gradients all that much :?

I like it, but I think it needs some sort of outer border (maybe a roundish one).

I just _love_ the style of those buttons - a bit similar to the new iTunes style, I reckon. Way better than the flat ones, the grey just looked so boring. The black with the transparent style makes it look more interesting.

There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

Yes but I'd prefer Fedora Core 4 version.
Oh, don't forget to make Mandrake 10 version, too

//this is pointles... I like the silver version, the one you call "mac version" and I don't think we need any more. Maybye when themes will be avaible for OTTD...

That mac osx version I did ages ago was just a joke and shouldn't be taken seriously.

i think themes is something they're working towards. But as Alltaken has pointed out. We still need a default design - which is what I've been trying to work on.

OK, just making sure :P don't want anyone to think this is what it will really look like - and if they do, they can make their own theme ;)

Looking at the shiny one again, I think I prefer the flatter look of my previous one.

But should I mockup EVERY dialogue? Or just a couple to give the impression. I think the main ones, as some I think need some redesign (ie button locations etc).

I think we need to agree on some standards though.
Like buttons to be rounded, all windows to have no border and rounded corners for example.

Even when we do get skins, this will only apply new colours and gradients I would imagine but the overall design wouldn't change (ie where buttons are and size of windows etc). Would this be what Theme's would do?

For the developer I can set up some UI guideline (ie pixel sizes) for them - posting here of course as well for comments. Won't happen in the next few days, but this is what I'd be working towards.
